I stopped by Friday morning while they were filming the movie Now You See My out side with Jesse Eisenberg and Isla Fisher. I was with my elderly mother en route to the Tenement Museum. From reading the previous reviews, I expected a lot of attitude and little service. I was delighted to find how wrong my expectations were. The staff couldn't have been more welcoming, accommodating, and delightful. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere cozy and casual. A great Lower East Side treasure!

A couple months ago I wrote a pretty scathing review of the 88 Orchard's staff. Eventually I did go back and they apologized for the previous incident and comped my meal! Ever since then, the service has improved greatly. The food is always consistently delicious using high quality ingredients. I never thought anyone reads these reviews. But, 88 Orchard did, and made improvements accordingly. Thank you!

hey ONCE IN A LIFETIME- did it ever occur to you how rude it was of you to bring in the starbucks coffee into another coffee shop? but perhaps it escaped you. & then again why would paying 50$ worth of food change anything? Who are you to value or balance the effect of having hosted your costly demeanor? I mean it certainly doesnt take a marketing degree to realize the diminution in the atmosphere and the overall product of the anti commercial coffee shop when you bring in a branded cup of starbucks. this being only one example of potential diminution. & for them to have even offered to salvage your drink in their cups! Personally i recommend you give the place a try. It is a nice niche to have in this city-for starters you can do your own work and just sit there for hours on end; you can also come with friends and enjoy a good game of chess or what have you;it s also a great place to meet new people and garner a sense of community... & that prettty much captures its daytime effect. meanwhile after 6 when they turn off the otherwise free wireless the place turns into an evening sort of bistro- in which case you can continue to make the most of it or recommend it to company (especially when you seek a place where you can have yourself a beer or a glass of wine and actually be able to listen/hear one another) -THAT for any new yorker becomes a rarity in short, for the variety of things that 88 orchard has to offer- etiquette is a small price to pay.

Yes, this is a once in a lifetime find. And, what I mean by this is that I will only be visiting this place once in my lifetime. Furthermore, I can't imagine that this restaurant will last much longer based on the customer-servicelessness our group received this morning. We were in the neighborhood for breakfast and, on the walk over, I bought a cup of STARBUCKS coffee. After meeting up with our friends outside, we walked into 88 Orchard, placed a very large breakfast order for five people and sat down. After waiting for approximately ten minutes, Peppermint Patty walked over to our table and told me that I could either throw away my Starbucks or take it outside to finish it. No apologies. No "we are happy to have you here for breakfast, thank you for dropping $50 on our mediocre eats, but may we pour your coffee into one of our cups..." It was beyond rude. The staff blows. Enough said.

I live a few blocks away from 88 Orchard and I love the quality of food and the coffee. What i HATE about 88 Orchard is the ANGRY STAFF. I recently ordered for delivery: an egg, cheese and bacon on bialy, orange juice and an ice coffee. After 40 minutes, i called 88 Orchard and offered to pickup. Once I arrived I was told there was no more orange juice. I then checked my order and they gave me an ice tea instead of coffee and once i was home found my sandwich was on a bagel instead of bialy. When i asked for a coffee instead of ice tea I was treated like I had done something wrong and with no apology. I have been ordering from 88 almost every day for the last couple of weeks and now I don't think I will ever go to 88 Orchard again...especially when there are so many great restaurants on the LES that treat their patrons with a little bit of respect instead of like a pain in the ANGRY STAFF's ass! If you are a masochist this restaurant is perfect for you!

My husband and I ventured in on a Saturday lunchtime. We were greeted with happy faces and a wonderful assortment of goodies. The bright street level was packed, so we explored the downstairs. Warm, relaxing, and perfectly right for a quiet retreat to quell our need for munchies. If we lived closer, it would be a regular spot. Sadly the drive from Long Island prevents our ability to enjoy this wonderful find. See you next time we are tramping to NYC! Thank you for a wonderful moment.
