Truly love this place. I have been coming to this place since last year and just celebrated my 30th birthday here and had an amazing time with my friends. They have an impressive list of Greek wines, which are unique and hard to find. I recommend trying Xinomavro from Macedonia. Their food menu is impressive as well. Make sure to order kavourokeftedes (crab cakes), feta fornou (baked barrel-aged feta- delicious) and loukaniko (leek and greek sausage). The atmosphere is very relaxed and romantic. And the service is always great. They are doing a great job making you feel like home!

I brought Italian clients for dinner at 9 pm on a weekday who had never had Greek cuisine. Italians are very finicky about food in general but raved about the dinner here! Although others have noted Ammos' pricy menu, the outstanding quality and absolute freshness of the appetizers, main courses and desserts plus attentive service offset the prices. Nevertheless, after frequently eating in various 4-star Manhattan restaurants, I really was impressed by the superior tasting food at our table. Our waiter, who also spoke Italian, carefully explained the types of Mediterranean fish on the menu, which he brought to the table on a platter for all to see. He modified an entree' for one of the guests to fit his needs, gave us an assortment of desserts for the price of two, a real bargain which was eagerly scooped up by everyone, and suggested a great Ouzo on ice to finish our meal. I always complain to managers constantly if I am not satisfied by the food, service, or noise in a venue, but I honestly can say that I had a 5-star meal at Ammos and can't wait to return!

This is one of my new favorite restaurants. The service is impeccable, the food superb and the ambiance is wonderful. It is a gorgeous place, very popular and with good reason. The staff was very helpful. We had octopus with beat salad as an appetizer and lamp chops with xtenia (scallops) as a main course. The desserts were dreamy, I had the sokolata and my wife had the rizogalo. We can’t wait to go back

The plusses for Ammos Estiatorio include delicious octopus that is slightly charred and other decent appetizers like the baked feta. However, I was embarrassed after suggesting the restaurant for two unforgiveable reasons. The first is pricing that is a level or two above the restaurant's quality. Exhibit A, a $35 prix fixe combination that comes down to cucumber soup and a gyro. Entrees are all in the mid-$30s and, in my view, don't stack up to similarly priced fare at so many other fine(r) restaurants. Strike two for me is not service per se but the entirely inappropriate live music that entails little more than a young fellow covering various popular and lounge hits armed with just an electric piano and a microphone. Oh, and an amplifier. The volume was truly deafening until I demanded of the waiter that he turn it down. The singer appeared to be entertaining several of his friends in the bar and ruining the night of the few diners willing to brave this venue.

I have been a few times for lunch during the week. Lunch is pretty pricey, but it's very tasty and satisfying. I liked the pita appetizer with various hummuses and spreads. Rice pudding was yummy. Fish was great. I recommend reservations on a weekday.
