Overpriced Mediocre Food Served with a Bad Attitude

A few friends and I decided to try out Bar Martignetti early one evening for drinks and dinner, what a mistake. While the decor and atmosphere are nice the service and attitude are horrible and the food is exceedly overpriced for amateur fare. We were there early and the place was empty so we ordered a bottle of wine at the bar. They constantly tried to rush us to a table even though the place was empty. When we finally sat because we couldn't take them asking one more time they gave us a table by the door that was drafty and we asked for another only to be told they were fully booked (almost every table was empty). After much ado they moved us to another table where we were rushed through a below average very expensive meal with a server that had a very condescending attitude. Upon leaving the place was still at least half empty so we had no idea what the issue with seating was. If you're looking for a pleasant comfortable evening out with good food this is not the place.

myself and few friends decided to try out this spot near my house- and it was a great time! definitely will go back again and again- my new neighborhhod hang out!the food was great- the people were nice-the place reminded me of a bustling joint in paris. we started out at the bar-waiting for a couple of people to show up- the bartender was so welcoming- chatted with us the whole time and actually taught me quite a few things- very insightful young man!! if you swing by strike up a conversation with this guy he's great! lucas i believe is his name. we retired to our table once everyone arrived- and we had a great time- everything we had- which was a lot- was excellent!! the steak tatar is my favorite to startl!! glad a great place has come to the hood.

Great food, great atmosphere, great service

My husband and I had a great dining experience here. It's definitely one of the best new restaurants and a great addition to the neigborhood. We shared a special salad that was inventive and very tasty, albeit a bit small, and for main courses we shared the scallops and special double cut lamb chops. Both were delicious, especially the lamb. For dessert we had the affogato which was also good. What rounded out the evening were the service and atmosphere. We got a table without reservation on a Friday night, the place was happening but we could still converse comfortably. Our waiter was professional, swift, courteous and provided perfect service throughout. He was friendly, available whenever we needed him, gave good advice, and brought us the check at exactly the right time without us asking. I highly recommend this place and hope they do enough business to be around for a long time, but not become too crowded and touristy like Balthazar & Felix.

Despicable

My friend attempted to have a birthday party there and was assured by the owner that all of her friends would be "treated well" and allowed in the door as long as they came early-only 30 guests actually were allowed in despite the fact that we were bringing ~200 people and their business and also spent $800 on dinner (which was mediocre). One friend they turned away at 10:50PM (I guess they did no;t think he was cool enough to come in as there was no line and it was before 11PM). Bouncers are RUDE AND OBNOXIOUS AND NEED A REALITY CHECK-YOUR BAR IS REALLY NOT THAT HOT (ALTHOUGH YOU MAY THINK SO)...IT ACTUALLY, REALLY JUST SUCKED. Their OVERPRICED, OVERRATED "signature" rasberry fizz tasted like robitussin. Unfortunately, the managers will only regret the despicable way they treated their potential guests when their club is no longer the "hot spot" (in about a month) and when they are begging for business. Until then the management should take some notes as I think they need a little help on how to run their poor, despicable excuse for a business

Very Disapointing

We were excited about the new addition for the neighborhood, we planned to be regulars in this great looking restaurant. We thought it would be a "Blathazar with day light" but the food was so so and the service was just humiliating. The owner/manager was very arrogant even the waiters was embarrassed for him. He did not lower a bit the bad music that played. He did not let us close a window when we said we were cold. They charged us for bread and they served the food without "the tools". There were many other details that I do not even want to mention. I understood they wanted to be like Odeon... As regulars at Odeon we may advice the owner to make a big shift in attitude. The owner of Odeon sets a warm, non snobbish, friendly and professional atmosphere where the customer always comes first. We are not very demanding customers but that was really bad. The owner/manager was not accommodating and his bad attitude took away our ability to enjoy the beautiful day light .... Too bad. We are still waiting for the next great place in the neighborhood, a "Balthazar with day light"...

Fabulous Evening

I had heard the "buzz" about Bar Martignetti's for some time. I was at first reluctant to go as I try to avoid Martignetti Liquors at all cost. However my girlfriend wanted to have her birthday party at this particular place. I have to say: WOW! The music was great, the food was astonishingly delicious (can't miss with Crab Salad!), and our waiter (I think his name started with a J...) was an adorably gorgeous young gentleman who treated the ten of us like princesses and was kind enough to help with a birthday surprise. After a delicious dessert we ventured downstairs and partied at Bella's. Will definitely be going back soon! -ciao, MA

Pathetic

Martignetti owner brothers attempt at assimilating the glamour and atmosphere of Odeon have failed terribly. We arrived at the restaurant to have a cocktail and were " greeted" by obnoxious door staff who acted like bullies on a playground. My friend compared the interior to the likes of the “Pottery Barn” catalogue with faux pressed tin ceilings and cheap furniture. We ordered two glasses of champagne and an Amstel Light for a $32. It is not unimaginable to pay that much but it is really disappointing when they served my friends Persecco. On all accounts is a real let down and not worth the visit.

Just Right

My friend and and I went to La Esquina to have dinner - of course it was slammed and we couldn't get a table - so we went around the block to Bar Martignetti. Our server was a little amateur. She hadn't tasted half of the dishes and didn't know anything about the wine. We asked about the pinot noir and her reply was "I haven't tried it, but I know people order it." Well of course they order it. It's the only one by the glass. But I digress, I really enjoyed the meal. The lobster sandwich was fresh and delicately seasoned. The hors d'oevres were intelligently portioned and delicious. I'm eager to go back to try their steak tar tar. Again, not amazing, but I enjoyed myself so much, I didn't mind missing out on the scene around the corner.

Boring

Although the atmosphere can be nice in the daytime, the food is quite basic and non-inventive, and consequently, way overpriced. The greasy-looking owner behaved like a real jackass - rude to his staff as well as customers. The "bouncers" do not let anyone in on busy nights who isn't chic enough (or doesn't have breasts), which is a shame because the place could use some personality and uniqueness.
