From the outside this place looks like it would be a dive, however the inside is fun, young, and you get a real neighborhood feel. The staff is very courteous and helpful. The food obvioulsy isnt Daniel quality, but it is very good for a bar and grill type of place. Drinks are also really good and relatively inexpensive for a restaurant. I would def go for a casual date, or with friends.

This is one of my favorite spots in my neighborhood. The food is consistently tasty and fresh. Not only that, but the restaurant is comfortable and laid-back, and it's a great place to relax with friends or family.

My 5-year-old son and I (39-year-old male) happened upon the Hi-Life after a long day at the American Museum of Natural History (4:30pm-ish). He couldn't walk anymore and the Hi-Life just happened to be on the spot he crashed. Although it didn't scream "kid-friendly" the hostess and waiter were incredibly accommodating, fixing him a plain grilled chicken breast and some of the best fries ever. I had the pasta puttanesca (with optional anchovies) and a Guinness, and we ate outside. The waiter was very friendly, talking to us about the Museum and asking my son about his favorite parts. It couldn't have been a nicer surprise. The food was terrific and I'd recommend the Hi-Life to anyone, with or without children -- unpretentious and just the right combination of excellent food, broad menu and bend-over-backwards service that's so rare.

Hi Life is a terrific neighborhood bar restaurant. It all starts with the pleasant staff who meet you at the front and invite you in to join them for an evening's meal and drinks. Nothing pretentious here, just friendly folks. Much of the clientele is from the neighborhood but I've met many folks from downtown and across the park. The food is consistenty top drawer and reasonably priced. I recommend the burgers and fries, sushi and rolls and all the pasta dishes (on different nights). Menu is not too extensive yet includes all the food groups you'd want from a local-type establishment. The bar scene blends into the restaurant scene and works very well. TV's always have local sports but this is not a sports/beer bar, it offers its clientele considerable more. This is simply a very comfortable place to eat honest food, drink with friends (and an educated bar staff) and hang out with good folks.
