I had looked at their website and was excited by the fact that the Chef had previously worked at Il Guscio, one of my favorites restaurants in Florence Italy. I was also glad to see that products such as finocchiona were on the menu, as well as game dishes that represent some of the most delicious Tuscan culinary traditions. Whatever was sold as finocchiona was simply not finocchiona, but some sort of low quality cold-cut. The pappardelle with boar were simply embarrassing. The pasta poorly made (my guess not dried properly) and the sauce a complete disaster. Boar is to be cooked in wine and only small quantities of tomato paste are allowed. What was served was boar (which was foul tasting) in a rich and dense canned tomatoe sauce. Simply Terrible. I had two bites and could not finish it. Service was at the levels one may expect in a pub.
A child size portion of branzino.....

I would love to have a good experience at Regional, but my two so far have not been good. I also asked for some special accommodations being gluten and diary free it is hard to find restaurants who are knowledgeable and willing to make good accommodations.....but this time I simply ordered the branzino in parchment as is from the menu. I was so surprised and taken aback by the portion size. I'm a petite size 2 person and I finished my meal in 4 bites and left to come home and get something to eat.....my salad experience tonight was not good either. I must add, that my boyfriend ordered the streak special and was very pleased with his. I wish I could try the pasta so I could be a Regional fan....there is a lack of great dining places in our neighborhood. My wish would be that they would get some GF pasta....
UWS is so lucky to Have Regional

What a great restaurant! It is so refreshing to have a great family owned restaurant in our neighborhood. Its like an Italian Cheers! There is a real sense of community from the moment you walk in. You will be very surprised about how excellent the food is! The recipes are real authentic, just like in Italy. Each Region of Italy is represented by a dish. I love the idea. The pasta is to die for. I love the wild boar pasta and ravioli fonduta! The daily specials are also very good. All in all, a great place!
It has gone downhill

We used to be regular brunch and dinner attendees at Regional, but the last two times we have been there it has been absolutely terrible. The food had always been enjoyable, but the entrees are now mediocre. The service is awful. On both occasions we waited over 15 minutes just to order and over 20 to get the check - and the restaurant was less than 50% full. On our recent visit the only waitress covering the dining room was seemingly M.I.A. No beverage service, no food order. After waiting 15 minutes, we asked the hostess if we might be able to order. She apologized and sent the waitress over to our table. The waitress treated us like we had made some imposition on her time. She greeted us with a chip on her shoulder and a "Yeah?" We ordered; one of my dining companions, a vegetarian, asked for a simple substitution of cheese for chicken on a salad. It apparently was too complicated for the waitress and/or the kitchen. The salad was wrong and our other entrees were cold. We sent back the salad, and our dining companion had to leave to find breakfast elsewhere. The real kicker is that when Regional finally brought us a check (nearly an hour and forty-five minutes after walking in) it still had the salad on it. I gave you two chances to shape up, Regional. Sorry, not going back. Less emphasis on the free booze and more emphasis on decently trained and paid waitstaff.

This place should change its name to 'Grande Ignanno' (the Big Deception)...it looks really nice, nicely decorated and lit, inviting, friendly staff, interesting menu and it always seems to be half full but don't be deceived, this place is absolutely terrible. I had the prosciutto, cheese and spinach flat bread and couldn't take more than a bite, the prosciutto was badly off and the bread was soggy. My wife ordered their specialty risotto, it was way undercooked and completely unseasoned. She also suffered through an awful case of food poisoning because of it, stay far away from this fraud of a restaurant..
Does not get the respect it deserves!

Regional is really good! I mean it! The recipes are authentic and the ingredients are so fresh. I have been here several times, I think I am considered a regular by now. This is a family run operation and the love and dedication really show!

The wait staff was friendly and the atmosphere was decent, but the food took too long to arrive at the table. Also, the house wine was unsatisfactory, and, in general, things were over-priced for what they were.
BEST VALUE IN UWS

Regional is unbelievable. The food is authentic Italian Cuisine. Unbelieveable value. The amibiance is warm and friendly. Definitely give it a try. They also do an a great job with the brunch they offer free Mimosa refills. Really, this place is happening.
