I ordered from Abbocato on 10/15. I called the restuarant directly for a delivery order and the girl who answered was very polite and said my order would be there in 30 minutes. Over an hour later, the delivery guy showed up. He handed me a wet, ripping bag of food and a damp receipt to sign. When I asked him if the delivery fee was already added, he couldn't communicate back and just motioned for a signature. After he left, I unpacked the wet bag and found my raviolli and risotto balls to be stone cold. The pop I ordered exploded all over me when I tried to open it. I have no idea what that delivery guy did with my food order, but I would never go back there with my business.

there are too many restaurants in nyc with great food AND great service to go back here. our server was terrible. bread/olive oil only brough when asked several times. never comes back to check if we need more. just dumps wine in the wine glass when friend didn't even want it filled yet, felt like server mistook this restaurant for a hole in the wall mexican joint rather than a nice italian restaurant. terrible terrible. wanted to give less on tip but waddaya know gratuity included since party of 6. maybe THAT's why service was so crappy since he'll get the tip anyway.

We had dinner here in November 2010 and it was delicious! Service was very good as well! Especially loved the Fried Clamari salad with lemon dressing and taglatelle with pork ragu. Price was moderate too. Looking forward to coming again.
Don't Try IT. Step away from the door.

My Family was looking for something a little different. Something with ambiance and good food. First I must mention that this not a family friendly establishment. We also notice that there grade was pending! That should have been our 1st clue. I realize that new menu is created every three weeks, However we had a hard time looking for down home regular Italian food. Different variations would be great, some of them were just off bet. My sister was brought a dish with something looking @her. It was off putting. Our waitress was extremely rude, and was not concerned with our wishes. Overall this was not a good time. it was a waste of time.

I've been there several times and every time the experience has been excellent. The waitstaff are always polite and efficient. The bartender knows how to make a cocktail unlike some places where we've had to tell a bartender how to make a Negroni or Manhattan. The food is excellent by the way. They do THE best grilled octopus in the city and a very good portion. I've gone to places where they charged twice as much for a lot less. It could be the people complaining are out of towners or inexperienced diners who would have preferred eating at McDonald's or a Mexican joint. The ambiance is comfortable and inviting. The only reason I can figure that waitstaff were rude to someone is that they were dishing out what they got from the customer. Some people are just born to kvetch.
A Gem of a Restaurant
By dicesnslices on 1/5/2011
This gem of a restaurant has it all: innovative food, impeccable service, ambience, and a Midtown location. The Tagliatelle with the Bolognese meat sauce was delicate but hearty on a cold winter night. The Skate Piccata was also perfectly done. Due to the snow storm the prior night roads were difficult and one of our party was late. Despite being seated and ordering at different times our food came out together and well prepared in time for our show. The ambiance is just right. Not to noisy so you cannot have a conversation, not too quiet so that it is oppressive. It is right across from the City Center theater and next door to a parking garage. While the prices are not inexpensive, the value on the dollar is excellent. I would recommend this restaurant for pre-theater, a date, to impress the in-laws, or just for a great meal.
Not good at all....

NYmag has been very reliable for me over the years and the "critics picks" are typically spot on. Not in this case. The food was lousy, not cheap, and the service was pretty bad. I went here last night before a preview of Iron Man 2 (which I loved) at the Ziegfield (sp?). The location was perfect, the room attractive, the food awful. I ordered a salad that I didn't eat because the dressing was so bad. The waiter didn't even notice I'd only taken one bite (likely typical because this happens with such frequency). My main was the seafood pasta, which was passable for Kansas City, but not New York City. To conclude, I hated this tourist trap and suggest no one go there. Get out while you can.

The restrurant is not so big or no so small, but its food is amazing. Every dish has a classic kick to it. The greek and italian Mmmmm Goood! I go there all the time. Family, dates or just myself. The feeling is no other feeling. Its an yes go ! :D

Below average food in a restaurant with little atmosphere. A very average midtown spot with nothing to particularly recommend it other than it is completely inoffensive.
Great food, Relaxed Atmosphere

This is a nice departure from the standard Italian fare you'll find in Midtown of spaghetti and red sauce. I had the grill octopus appetizer and the sweetbreads for my entree, and both were excellent. Other people at my table had the rack of lamb, and they enjoyed it. It's right across from Milos, so you might be tempted to go there, but if you don't want seafood, then head to Abbocato.
