Oustanding new place

Only a matter of minutes before this place becomes a critics' pick. I went there last weekend and could not have been more impressed with the food. The mackerel sashimi alone is worth the trip. Also try the fried chicken. Staff was very attentive and polite, decor very hip and good NYC crowd. The food is pretty inexpensive, too, especially for how good it is.

The food here wasn't as good as I expected - we ordered the cheese/cured meat platter, the basil and tomato pizza and the olives. While the olives and pizza were fine - after all, there is only so much you can expect with this kind of food - the cheese/meat platter was really disappointing. The cheeses tasted like chalk and you got four pieces a little larger than a quarter, and the meats were mostly subpar, except for the proscuitto, which was excellent. The service here is great though, and their infused sodas are also really good - get the lime/basil one. I'm not sure if I'll come here again.

Absolutely loved this place. Pretty, white & chic. The food was probably the freshest tasting food I've ever had. Service: Highly attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Concept: Sustainable food - farm fresh. The back of the menu gave credits to all the local farm providers. We started out with the Cured meats & local cheese platter (although the cheese portions were pretty petite as one reviewer did point out) they were excellent pairings of prosciutto/salami and sharp soft cheeses. Definitely try the Peeky toe crab toast if its on the menu -- it was out of this world, so fresh and light. For the entrees we had the Lobster - which was very rich, but perfectly cooked with a lemony vinaigrette, and the Black Sea Bass with chiles, and spinach, red bliss potatoes tasted so amazingly fresh as if it just swam by and we plucked it out of the ocean... For dessert he had the Blueberry Pie and I had the Sundae with Salted Caramel Ice Cream, candied peanuts, caramel popcorn, chocolate sauce and whipped cream - which was like a religious experience. We paired it all with a light and refreshing Handley Cellars Chardonnay 2007 from Alexander Valley. All in all a perfect night. We will be back.

We are big fans of the innovative culinary genius of Jean-Georges. Perry St has the best prix fixe deal in town; JoJo is always delicious; Nougatine is terrific, and for a special occasion, Jean-Georges is our favorite "big deal" restaurant. We went to ABC Kitchen right after it opened. The concept was charming; the food was uneven, and it was painfully loud. We went back last night -- same deal. It's like a Jean-Georges tribute band, with bad service (it shouldn't take 30 minutes to get a glass of wine). And it's still REALLY LOUD. Peekytoe crab toast is yummy, but it's better at Perry St. Same with the calamari -- rubbery at ABC; ethereal at Perry St. And the ABC pizza -- horrifying. I would never go back.
MEDIOCRE AND SALTY

I am a big fan of NY restaurants and rarely am I that disappointed. I expected the food to be much better... Extremely salty, not interesting tastes, there is an effort to create nouvelle american cuisine but ABC just does not do it. Sweets were too sweet, the special steak of the day was just bad and over-priced, the portions were too small, what makes the place is just the ambience rather than the food. It could have been much better but I was very disappointed by its quality. Sure, presentation, plates, decor, is important, but taste is more important and I have no good comments on taste. The cod we ordered was way too thin, the mushrooms under too buttery... The bread on the crab appetizer was burned, and again, the aftertaste was salt for the rest of the night.

When my husband said he didn't want to stay I should have listened and ran. The girls at the front desk were friendly and accomodating and sat us early. However, the servers seem to be on another planet and so it took awhile to get the food ordered. I wish it hadn't been ordered. The plate of buttnernut squash was swimming in a pool of oil. The french fries were greasy and the hamburgers were tasteless. The desserts was no better than eating a cup of lard. How unappetizing to eat off plates that looked dirty and grimy with large black streaks. The silverware was so beaten up that they looked like they had been bought at a garage sale ( I heard they were bought on Ebay---that is for sure). Looking around the room I noticed that most people had not finished their food either.I can't believe that this is a Jean-Georges restaurant! then.......

Food was good, the ambiance was really good. I'll definitely go there again. My only problem was with how they were serving the white wine; white wine is supposed to be filled with least amount possible so that it stays chilled, but our server was just trying to poor the whole bottle into glasses, so that we ordered more. so sneaky
ABC Kitchen Restaurant

Unimpressed by the distinctive and classy atmosphere, because the food underwhelmed: avoid the pasta/bowties with kasha /veal meatballs....The bread was unimpressive, the calamari were dry and there was a haughty waiter taking care of our table...he was unfriendly. Overall, it is overpriced for the quality and taste...The pasta/ bowties dish was tremendously overpeppered.

The restaurant itself is beautiful with its use of natural elements, like exposed wood beams, tree branches, stones, and flowers, all against soft white walls and lit with natural lighting. The food was similarly light and ethereal. The raw diver scallops served with toasted pistachios and pickled peppers were a fun way to start the meal and were possibly the most impressive dish in that they matched an unusual pairing of flavors with great success. The kabocha squash toast was a comforting dish that paired nicely with the lighter scallops appetizer. As an entree I tried the tuna burger special and my friend had the hamburger. Both were served perfectly. I had asked for mine rare and received a burger that had been seared on the outside but was still much like tartare on the inside... perfect. Overall the meal was a very pleasant experience.
