What a huge disappointment! ACME, one of the oldest low-fare cajun restaurants in the downtown area is no more. Not only is it dead, but some pretentious, high-end, over-decorated typical flashy place for Saturday night crowds has replaced it and kept the original name!!! Why would you do that? Can't you find your own name, instead of surfing the reputation of an authentic New York icon and luring loyal customers to your wannabe hot-spot for the eternal dumb looking models and yuppie losers? The menu does not even have ANYTHING cajun or remotely southern on it. Where is my jambalaya? Question to the new owners: do you know a place with some good soul food around here?

Ate here for the first time Friday night and was absolutely floored. In terms of the quality of the food, the thought that goes into each dish, the sheer pleasure of the meal, this was the best dining experience I've had in a long, long time. I honestly have no idea what the negative reviewers here are talking about -- for me, each dish was a revelation, in which simple and sometimes surprising flavors came through in such a clear, clean fashion. Having eaten many mediocre meals at restaurants that get rave reviews from diners, all I can say is that anyone who knows and appreciates inventive, thoughtfully prepared food should eat here. And anyone who thinks that the stunning beer and bread porridge (a dish I'm still dreaming about days later) tastes like Trader Joe's oatmeal should go down the street and have a tiramisu at any of the hundreds of generic nothing restaurants elsewhere in the city.

I brought a chef friend, in for the James Beard awards, to Acme for dinner. After waiting 40 minutes at the bar for our 8:30 reservation, I politely asked the hostess how much longer she thought it would be. She looked at me blankly and said she had no idea how long it would be for our table. No apology, no explanation just blank stares. After a few more minutes I grabbed my coat and we left. From the looks of the food coming out of the kitchen, nothing looked good enough to put up with the unprofessionalism of the front of the house.

had a great meal. fresh farmers egg, country toast, salad and steak. all amazing. had to wait 10 minutes for our table but the drinks at the bar more than made up for it. will go back to this chic downtown space with quality food.

I was lucky enough to get a table for my birthday but it was a bit sullied when my friend found a few strands of hair in her Pearl Barley & Clams. She politely asked the waitress to take it back and may I say, we are two blonds and a redhead. The strands were black and short. The experience got especially bad when the waitress got oddly defensive and in a last ditch effort accused my friend of putting the hair there. The manager eventually got involved and seemed very reluctant to replace the dish, but he did. The table next to us even came to our defense and said the experience was so odd and wouldn't tip them. I simply don't know what happened here? It was the strangest night. I can't possibly imagine this place lasting once the hype dies down because the service is so bad. Just look at all of the other reviews. Oh and the food is so so. Not worth it.

i am a huge foodie and really enjoy going to the new hot restaurants. after waiting a month to secure a table, i am sad to say the food at acme is either tasteless or overly salty. i know its "nordic" cuisine but that doesnt give them carte blance to pretend that picked beets are tasty. the beer and bread porridge basically tastes like trader joes oatmeal. the service is rude and unpleasant. the only saving grace is that it's a pretty room.

We agree...the food was very good but our overall experience was also soiled by the truly awful service beginning with the obnoxious doormen followed by a very condescending waitress. Please drop the attitude, it's unnecessary.

Truly awful service. Ruined the experience, especially because the food was great, but literally the overall experience was soiled by our waiter. Sorry! Was really looking forward to it. Maybe try again when things calm down a bit.
