My girlfriend and I tried Africa Kine out tonight and LOVED it! Food was fantastic (especially the Dibi), and be sure to try the ginger drink. Relaxed environment, and a true neighborhood feel (kids were running around between the tables while their parents leisurely chatted and ate). A must try.

This restaurant is good, not great. Service leaves much to be appreciated especially for individuals who are hungry or diabetic. The waiting time is much too great. The furniture is excellent but the ambiance need improvement. This is not a sports bar so the tv needs to be turned of and nice ambient music in its stead. Many people came in and were served before people who were sitting already for more than an hour. Why this happened I don't know. The waitress is great with alot of potential, but needs further training in customer service coving table rotations, service and timeliness of delivery. Food portions are very large and the food is great once you get it. Come with an empty stomach because you will be eating alot.

While I cannot speak on the service standard of Africa Kine, ( I had take-out), I was thoroughly impressed with the the taste, presentation, and packaging of the food. I had fish (baked whole) and my boyfriend had something that resembled couscous and lamb. Both were delicious and I was impressed to find such flavourful, wholesome food so late at night. If you've a taste for the exotic DEFINATELY give it a try. I'll be back!

This is a great restaurant in the sense that the food is authentic, delicious, and very affordable. Llike most African restaurants the service is horrible. BUT, IF YOU COME HERE, BRING CASH!!! Our table of four was billed 57 USD, gratuity of 21% added, for 65.34 USD. Tax was not added. We tried to pay by CC. We were charged 84 USD. She explained to us that New York had a 22% sales tax. She added more than 40% to our bill! We canceled the charge and decided to pay cash. At this point, since the did not charge us tax, it was again a good deal, with (in our minds) 8.25% of the 21% mandatory gratuity going to tax and and the remaining 12.75% representing a poor tip for terrible service.

The food was good. The flavor was great. The treatment before the waitress even came over, AWFUL. You know how people look at you when they want to leave? Just like that. We expected slow service, but not to be served a half hour after the last people to arrive 20 minutes after us were well into their meals. Or to see them microwaving food as it comes out of the kitchen. Or to see our waitress sit down to enjoy a meal 40 minutes after we ordered in an empty restaurant. We only went because we heard the food was good and we wanted to support African business, but maybe we were the wrong kind of black. So if you want good food for good prices, do takeout.
