On the whole I was not very happy with Agave. Though we had a reservation, we still waited 30 minutes for our table. When we were seated, our waiter took a long time to even come bring us water / introduce himself, and then remained pretty inattentive the remainder of the night. Our food took a long time to come, but when it did it was pretty good. It has a nice atmosphere, but until they work on improving their service I would say the experience was just ok.

I've lived in the West Village for years and for some reason I was never drawn to Agave. Let me tell you how big of a mistake this was. It wasn't until I was recommended to go here through a website my friend sent me, eateryexpert.com. I was looking for a place where we could host a large dinner in a fun environment and not too pricey - first on there list was agave. DELICIOUS is the first word that comes to mind - Perfect food for a night out and even more perfect of a margarita. The margarita was about the size of my head and I drank it all enjoying the fresh strawberrys at the bottom. I had a great experience and I promise you that you will too!

Good Mojitos

What can I say, there is something about sitting on the bar on a sunny weekend evening, sipping mojitos and margaritas and indulging in the setting sun the pours in. This is one of my favorite cocktail spots in the city, I specifically like the pomegranate mojitos and the blood orange margaritas. Also a decent place for outdoor dining on a nice evening. The food is solid, not much to expect, we had the Kobe burger which was nice. I would definitely go back for a casual dinner and drinks.

I've been to Agave twice, and on both occasions have found cause to complain about the service. We found both the host at the front desk and the waiter at our table to be rude, condescending and disrespectful. The food is good, but there are MANY more restaurants in NY with equally good food that also provide great service. Definitely not value for money. If you're looking for a good Mexican restaurant, try Zarela on 51st/2nd!

I've heard good things about Agave as a straight down the middle, tex-mex and margarita sort of place. This may be true, but I went there for a simple sunday brunch and not only was the food terrible (eggs undercooked, beans cold, etc.), but the waiter was surly and spent most of his time talking with the bartender, to the point were we had to get up twice (after waiting ~15 minutes each time) to find him to ask for a little more water and finally the check. Good food and bad service is OK, bad food and good service, forgivable, but when the two combine...
May try Agave sometime for dinner with friends, but never again for brunch.

I've never had a bad meal, here--though I'm not sure I've had a brilliant one, either. The execution is solid: consistently good, but not the best NYC has to offer. It's a nice, laid-back neighborhood restaurant for a casual, weekday meal--but I'd spend special occasions elsewhere.

Started with Hatch green chile corn chowder w/chicken, very hearty and extremely well balanced dish. A hint of chile, tomatoes offered a sweetness, wonderful choice when very cold, very hungry, or both.
Chile crusted seared Ahi tuna was cooked perfectly, excellent moist piece of fish. Chile crust added a tasty smokiness, not 'hotness', tomatoe consomme and olive/caper relish were wonderful along with it.
Blue Crab quesadilla was cooked perfectly, the tortilla was cooked but not hard/crispy. Definitely taste the crab, guacamole had a hint of chile on the aftertaste, worth coming back just for this dish.
Fresh Fruit margarita of the day was wonderful, I had the Blood Orange version which was slightly sweet but balanced with just the right amount of tartness and tequila overtones.
Chambord creme brulee does not have much raspberry to it, but the sugar crust was cooked to perfection (just the right amount of crispness), and the custard was creamy and delicious.
Overall, I'd like to go back and eat my way through the menu: the quality was consistently excellent and compels one to come back.

Hands Down Best SouthWest Cuisine in NYC

Agave tops the list for South West Cuisine in NYC! White adode walls, dim lights and it's native american motif set the mood right.
With a large variety of authentic Mexican food to choose from you are sure to leave full, as large portions seem to be Agave's standard. Foods that must be tried include the Grilled Corn on the Cob appetizer done Mexican style served with queso cotija and chipotle lime butter, Puerco Sabana(pork tenderloin marinated in pina mojo) and the Super tender Short Ribs.
The wait staff was friendly and prompt. Suprisingly the bathroom all though a bit cramped was seemingly clean and orderly.
Overall a great place to have dinner with family or friends.

Agave is a magical culinary delight in all areas. It is a fun place for meeting and entertaining. The menu has something for those who have diversified taste as well as simple ones. The service is both attentive and reserved so as to keep you satisfied. Agave is the kind of place where you are proud to be the one that recommended it.

I love the decor of this space, they have spent painstaking time on details. From the flowers to the lighting to the south western artwork that adorns the walls. They have a great steak and cheese quesadilla and the prickly pear margherita is worth the visit all by itself. Like the atmosphere far better than that of Benny's burrito or any of the other mexican restaurants in the vicinity
