I was going to title this review "Trainwreck," but it's actually not THAT bad . . . it's just a mediocre offering in a first-class location and thus a tragic missed opportunity. The menu is skimpy and not cheap and the food only slightly better than average. I've been twice and each time there were only two other tables and they were filled with kinda nasty suburbanite types. I wouldn't be surprised if they are having trouble filling tables because, aside from being over-priced, they've also made the curious decision not to put their name or menu anywhere on the awning, doors or windows. It is not inviting, to say the least. Once you tentatively go in, the space is indeed very nice, but there are many well-appointed dining rooms in the City, some that actually want you as a customer.

Forget Frank Bruni's snarky review (he must have been having a bad day) - Ago is a great restaurant. Chef/Owner Agostino's authentic Tuscan cuisine is exceptional, the service is helpful and friendly, the decor is charming (Italian rustic) and the tables are spacious. If you chose to eat at the bar, Julie and Giuliana will take excellent care of you and you will dine as comfortably as you would at a table. This is the restaurant to bring your out-of-town friends and even to win-over your in-laws. From start to finish, Ago is a superb restaurant experience. It's a winner.

Randy Jackson: Listen up dawg... it was pitchy the whole way through. Paula Abdul: It was not a good song choice and you forgot the lyrics but I love you for who you are. Simon Cowell; It was like a cruise ship/las vegas/karaoke crooner... frankly awful. The food was mediocre and expensive, the early crowd was boorish, the design was acceptable, the service was friendly but needed practice (only open 9 days to be fair) but the music was overwhelmingly absurd. There are many better restaurants to spend your money in Manhattan than Ago... "Sorry" (Simon Cowell)
