I would totally recommend Aldea - and if you like to watch chefs at work, order a bar seat by the open kitchen and definitely try the Sea Urchin Toast which is just amazing. The service is great and the price of food and wine is a steal for this kind of calibre of NY restaurant.

Truly awful. Went with fiancee -we had the hanger steak and the duck rice concoction. Every item on the hanger steak dish was nearly inedible. Duck rice was boring. Appetizers were the Peas & Bacon thing and the gazpacho. Uninspiring gazpacho and just plain bad peas/bacon. I have no idea how anyone could have come away with a positive impression of this restaurant, apart from decor. However, I came to eat, not to admire the decorators work.

Had a special evening with my partner after getting back into town. For a night like that, you want attentive, but unobtrusive service (check), romantic but fun setting (check), great food - razor clams, duck risotto, and we even tried the pork belly (check, check, check) and perfect wine pairings (check). The place is new, but everyone knows what their doing, especially the chef. This is definitely going to be "our place."

We had heard about Aldea in the press and from friends so we decidfed to celebrate a birtthday there. We shared the shrimp appetizer (plentiful, juicy and delicious) and each had tapas type dish first (I had the pigs ear-yum). The duck confit was just right, and the chocolate dessert finished off the meal to a "T". The wine list and selection of special drinks were plentiful. We would definitely return.
