It really might be quite a charming place -- the decor is attractive and the food isn't so bad, but the service & management are despicable. Agressive, rude and dishonest. Don't go.

Awful - King of the Bait and Switch

I really wanted to like this place. Outdoor seating, in my neighborhoood. But two strikes you're out. First time we came here, we were provided a different wine at a different price from what we ordered. Same bait and switch tonight. Pasta special -- clams, mussels & linguini, presented on the bill as the "lobster special" at significantly higher price than what was expected. Same with the burger. And then the check presented as cash only -- why not tell people this at the beginnning of the night rather than the end. When we complained to the manager, his big defense was to be threatening and aggressive and shout: IT'S LEGAL! Really? We will not be back.

Very unfriendly service

I was surprised at how unfriendly the waiter was. He wouldn't let us sit where we wanted, and then said we couldn't take the other table was asked for because they hadn't put finish on it yet. I would have left right then and there, but it was a business lunch and I didn't want to make things awkward. I don't understand how someone could be so unaccomodating and impolite to a customer when they want their business. The food was decent, but overpriced. I had a modest salad with a few pieces of shrimp and portabello for $16. Then, it took forever for the waiter to get us the check and take my card (and they only accept Amex). Will never go back because of the terrible unfriendly service.

There are so many places in NYC, particularly the West Village, that are priced $$$ but don't live up to expectations. Alexandra is reasonable and exceeded all of our foodie expectations. Chic crowd, dogs allowed outside, and delish menu.

Place is beat.

Went there last night - couldn't find anywhere else in the neighborhood open on a monday, finally decided to give it a try. We both got the specials - fried chicken and veal milanese - the veal was good - not great - but good. The fried chicken though had no presentation, and didn't have anything setting it above and beyond popeye's. But for $24, you'd think they'd at least TRY to make it special. The real killer though - while I will note, the staff was reasonably friendly and welcoming - was when we received the bill, while all the entree's range from $10-$26, the veal was $35. To be ten bucks above the rest of the menu, accompanied by the fact the server didn't mention the prices when introducing the specials, and have that "special" dish ONLY suffice to be called "good"... I simply can't find a reason for the life of me what would bring customers back.

I liked a lot my food. A little expensive for de size of the portion but my food was well seasoned. Worth what I paid for. I just thought they could do a renovation at the bathroom.

The decor is wonderful, very cozy and comfortable. The staff are friendly and attentive, even the music was great (subtle jazz). Unfortunately the food was lacking, mediocre at best. I went for lunch and got the orecchiette...aside from being way too salty it otherwise just bland and uninspired, one step up from chef boyardee. Maybe it was just a poor dish or an off day but I was disappointed.

I had the Mahi sandwich for brunch, which was absolutely delicious. The feeling and decor is warm and inviting, which is opposite of the angry little man that was my server. Overall experience was great and food is very good. Excited to go back for dinner!

Alexendra was a excellent surprise, the food was delicious (we got all three of the daily specials, including the organic fried chicken (yum)) and the service was great. We sat long after our meal was finished with no pressure to order dessert or leave. A great local place.

Alexandra is very cute, has a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere, but is smaller than the pictures make it look. Had a low-key, upscale crowd on the Sunday morning I visited. Both waiters were smiling, very pleasant, and attentive. The prices were very reasonable considering the service, quality of the meal, and the location. I will absolutely go again with my girlfriend for dinner.
