Spent a fantastic anniversary night at Alfama. We were lucky to meet Tarcicio that night, an absolutely wonderful host, and a true auteur for signature cocktails. He combines an incredible blend of ingredients that you would think cannot possibly mix. The menu is quite a nice selection of Portuguese dishes. You will never regret trying this place, an absolutely charming restaurant.

This is an amazing restaurant. Everything from the food, ambiance, to service was above outstanding! The comfortable couch seating immediately relaxes you and prepares you for the delicious food to come. I highly recommend trying the duck salad (salada de pato) and the clams (ameijoas a bulhao pato) for the appetizer, and the rabbit (coelho a cacador) for the main course. Everything was filled with flavour, the different tastes complimented each other beautifully, and the meat was tender and juicy. Service was also one of the best in the city. The waiters were friendly and my glass was always full, and most importantly I did not feel bombarded by their attention. I would recommend this to everyone!

Even my Portuguese-immigrant grandma couldn't find a single issue with Alfama. Food is great. Servers are very helpful (and don't mind mangled pronunciations...not everyone speaks Portuguese!) and you can't go wrong on the menu. The selections of cheeses are always consistently interesting and tasty. For dessert, the farofias is tough to beat--heaven in a dish. For wines, try the Vinho Verde. You'll spend the rest of your days hunting down Vinho Verdes in wine shops around the city.

You would never think. For one, it's almost exclusively packe with suburbanites and toursists lackinga new york crowd. Then there is the atmposhere where you feel very much an old worlder - sought of like dining on the QE2. But the food and service is simply top rate, and when you have great food and great service for what will be about a $70 per person meal with drinks and tip, who can really complain? The very attractive wait staff does not hurt either.

Having been to Portugal many times, it is wonderfully refreshing to find an authentic Portuguese restaurant that transports me back to Lisbon every time I eat there. The menu is quite diverse and reflects culinary touches from different regions of Portugal. The service is warm, attentive, but never intrusive. The wine list is a true road map to the best that Portugal has to offer; and with thoughtfully written tasting notes, it makes it easy to find just the right wine to accompany your food. Alfama is a gem of a restaurant. I can't recommend it enough.
