New LES Gem
By berg835 on 11/28/2007
This new LES gem is a must for anyone with a palate for refined flavors. From the moment you pull back the red velvet curtain, unveiling a bar scene that hip enough to hang but chill enough to dine, to your first bite of their perfect Colorado Lamb Chop, your senses are peaked and expectations met. While I was hoping for booth, my date and I were more than satisfied with our table for two. However, the proximity of the tables opened a window into the awkwardness that was my neighboring couple. This, however, just added another fun topic of conversation, further enhancing a superb experience.
BIg Price Small Portions
By summergirl on 12/25/2007
The service was horrific. The hostess sat us 45 minutes late, with no apology and a big attitude. She also asked if she could cut in front of me on the bathroom line to refill the soap. What happened to courtesy and customer service? The price tag is high and the portions are small, the attitude is large and the food is just ....good. Skip it.
Not Living Up to Hype

It took me a month to get a prime weekend reservation here... and I'm not sure why. Our waitress was incredibly rude and very snarky. The food was overpriced and not worth it. An $18 salad looked like the leftovers from a bodega salad bar. Will never go back here and have already convinced friends to cancel upcoming reservations to go elsewhere.

My wife and I had dinner here this past weekend and had a very nice experience. Warm and inviting restaurant...The host was personable and actually sat us right away, Can't think of one thing to complain about in terms of service, our waitress was very nice and attentive without being a pain. Our food was excellent. dessert was exceptional. I think the prices are in line as well...
average food, terrible service

What stands out about Allen & Delancey is the egregiously terrible service - both at the bar and in the restaurant. If the food was excellent, it might be possible to overlook the pitifully low quality service. No such luck. I'll never return and I recommend you save your time and money.
Poor Service ruined experience

I went to Allen & Delancey for a special dinner last night, and had anticipated the evening for a month. We had a 9:30 reservation (on a Monday night) and planned to take our time and enjoy the dinner. Our intial drink order service was prompt, but in a span of less than 10 minutes of sitting down, our waitress asked to take our order 3 times even though we told her we hadn't even looked at the menus and planned to take our time. When we gave her our appetizer order she said we had to order all our food at once and forced us to decide right away. We had planned on a leisurely evening but were instead rushed through, despite the fact that we were the last seating of the evening.... the waitress was slow to bring anything we asked for (i.e. bread) but too quick taking our plates away and bringing the next course. The food was truly pretty good and the atmosphere is PERFECT (especially for a date!) but the service is such that it makes me unable to recommend the place... especially at $250 for two... what a shame!
Horrible service that ruined my dinner
By AAJ on 10/1/2008
My boyfriend and I went here last Saturday for date night and the service was the WORST I have ever had in New York. After receiving our cocktails, we ordered the tomato and melon appetizer to share and the cod and halibut for our entrees. After finishing our drinks, we each ordered a glass of wine to have with our dinner. The only problem was that we finished our wine, we still didn't have our appetizer. After waiting over 30 minutes without food, the waitress came over to apologize for the wait. Her excuse was that there was a big party that ordered at the same time and our order got mixed in with theirs. You would think that after she realized that it would have came right out but we continued to wait another 15 minutes! After finishing the appetizer, we then continued to wait an absurd amount of time for our fish to come. Both entrees were good, but they were extremely small portions with no sides all for over $30. Maybe I would have felt satisfied if I hadn't been so hungry from my hour and half wait for my food.
Could've been better

I called twice to let them know that my dinner was for my anniversary. I asked to be seated at a romantic, cozy, quiet table.Instead they lumped us btwn two other tables- we asked to be moved and they just put us to another one like it. There were clearly cozy circular couch tables that were romantic available. The drinks were fabulous, the waitress was wonderful. Appetizers were fair- goat cheese tart was acidic and he had the quail which was tasty. I had the halibut which was slightly undercooked but very good and he had the lamb chop which was very rare. The desserts are amazing- we split the apple tart/donut and the peanut butter and chocolate one. Overall it was good. Pricey, great ambiance, great service but the food could have been stepped up a notch. They also could have been more responsive to our special occasion and not just squeeze us anywhere because we weren't celebs.

We were sat on a table next to the wall, and the floor and table were shaking. It got pretty annoying so we asked for another table, which we thankfully got. You could tell everyone hates that table (they have some type of machinery on the other side of the wall), but they keep trying to shove people into it. Food servings were insultingly small for a place that can't claim to be nouvelle cuisine. Service was dismal - 45 minute wait between courses. Nice decor, yes, but don't waste your money. PD: what was Michelin thinking to award this place a star? Absurd
What more could you ask for

My husband took me here for a birthday dinner. I loved the atmosphere. What seemed to be a hundred candles lined the room. We had to wait about 20 minutes for our table but that is expected on a weekend. Plus the drinks at the bar were great. We made our own tasting menu and the Chef split the courses so we didn't need to share from one plate. The wine pairing was nice as well. It was pricey but worth it. I might not go back just for a bite with friends but for a special occasion yes!
