I was excited to try Alta and was impressed by the old world ambiance. That said, none of the food I ordered was remotely memorable - and I love Spanish food! - wines by the glass didn't have anything I was excited to try (I ordered a rose that was a bit weak), and I paid a pretty weighty tab and left hungry. The service was just inconsistent. The bartender was attentive and knowledgeable, but my server took fifteen minutes to greet us and get us water and seemed to want to get away again as quickly as she could. It was nice of her to comp a glass of wine on our tab, but I really would have rather paid for the wine and had good service. With so many incredible restaurants in nyc, I don't think Alta is a place I'll be back to any time soon.

I ALWAYS LIKE TO NEED A HEPATITIS VACCINE CHASER TO A NIGHT OUT. EXCEPT THAT AFTER SYMPTOMS, THE VACCINE DOESN'T HELP. I DIDN'T ORDER HEPATITIS, SO WHO PAYS FOR IT? FINALLY, THE OWNERS NEED TO MAKE CERTAIN THEIR STAFF DOES NOT HAVE COMMUNICABLE DISEASE. I DON'T GO OUT TO GET SICK BY INFECTED STAFF. THE NYC BOARD OF HEALTH SHOULD HAVE CLOSED THIS DUMP DOWN.

Of course we had to confirm before 3pm otherwise we would lose our reservation. When we arrived and told the host that one of our friends would be a few minutes late, we were informed that we could not be seated until our entire party arrived and then we were also told that they needed the table back in 2 hours. We were a party of 3 people seated at a table for 2 people in the corner near the fire extinguisher. When we asked to be moved to another table, we were given another table for 2 people in a very high traffic area. It was 6pm, the restaurant was practically empty and this is the best table we could receive? Alta really needs to get over themselves. The food was acceptable, but no restaurant should be patronized where they could care less about their customers' comfort or feelings and expect customers to return after being treated so poorly.

I brought my family here as many friends recommended Alta. They sat us in the back room upstairs at a table for 4 for 5 people. The food was good, however, the portion size was so small. You need to order about 4 dishes each and dishes are priced around a dinner plate. My whole family was still hungry and our bill was $400. This place is over rated. Go somewhere else and have a full dinner at half the price.

Went here with my husband last Saturday since being recommended from friends and it's so close to our apt. Since the menu is a bit overwhelming with choices, we asked our waiter for recommendations. He wasn't as knowledgeable as I'd hoped, but he had some good choices. He also didn't explain that the food comes out as soon as it was ready so we felt a bit rushed since the food started coming short after we ordered in a random order. highlights: spinach and mascarpone bruschetta brussel sprouts shrimp and chorizo skewer My husband loved the manhattan cocktail and I enjoyed some French rose. We will definitely go back to try the fried goat cheese and short ribs.

Alta has HORRIBLE customer service. I was looking forwarded to coming to this restaurant until it became very apparent when they CANCELLED my reservation because I didn't make the 3pm "confimation" period. Since when does a restaurant already assume their patrons are not going to show up? Why do I have to feel pressured and have to remember to make a "confirmation" deadline for something I made a RESERVation for?? Isn't that enough? How many times do I have to tell you I am coming? I have enough things to worry about in my day. If you are concerned about table turn around, DON'T ACCEPT RESERVATIONS. The person I complained to was not helpful, did not apologize and continued to make me feel I was in the wrong because I didn't meet their absurd and rediculous policies. Good thing I didn't go, customer service is usually a reflection of the food.

i have to say the restaurant is very nice but i work as a concierge and the restaurant just informed me that they do not except reservations from concierge...now i have been discriminated in many way in my life, but i have to give them credit..that is a 1st for me...to add on the restaurant told me it was because when concierge call 85% of the reservation cancel...NOW i have to say please think about this kind of ignorance before you do go....GO FOR THE FOOD NOT THE SERVICE!!!!!!!!

Truly brilliant decor and ambiance. Great date spot - though it get's quite noisy for my tastes - try to get a table upstairs for a slightly quieter atmostphere. Food was all excellent, really top-notch. Service was pitched exactly the right, friendly and helpful but not in your face. Comes at a price though, two of us had two cocktails, six small plates and one dessert. Bill came to $96 after tax and before tips.

First off, it's as pretty as they say it is...very romantic, dim lighting, nice candles...but it is a bit loud..I found myself yelling so my boyfriend could hear me. Nonetheless, if this does not bother you, it's truly the perfect place for a date or a celebration. Almost each plate we had (churrasco steak, rabbit, spinach and marscapone dip, pork empanadas) was good and quite different from anything we've had before. The avocado relleno was not that great at all though and I don't recommend you order it. The sangria was strong and refreshing, not out of this world, but not bad by any means and we were disappointed they didn't offer pitchers of it...although 11 dollars a glass is quite reasonable for the City. We had a great time there and can't wait to go back!

This place used to be amazing, but not anymore. The ambiance is beautiful and the service was nice, but the food was terrible. It's obvious that the food is reheated. 2 of our 7 dishes were inedible. One of the dishes had a delicate cheese which had been reheated. THe cheese became oily and slightly bitter after being reheated. The other inedible place was a plate with prosciutto: when it was reheated, the prosciutto became dry and way too smokey. The food just wasn't good. It was not fresh, not tasty, and not good quality. This is not acceptable when you're paying full price for a meal.
