My husband and i took a friend and her visiting father here for dinner. Food was delicious, the service excellent, a nice quiet, elegant ambiance. Her dad was very impressed and we all loved it. Not sure what the other reviewers were talking about, we would definitely go back.

When you get to Ama, it feels like you have only twenty minutes to sit down (if you can fit in the minuscule space between tables), order, eat and leave. Food was average, to begin with. Two Italian "posers" pretend to know about wine and only one waiter works for real. The owner is a spectacle, in the worst sense conceivable: with a fake smile to the customers, he screams at all his employees, and, even worse, you can hear his yells coming from the kitchen. He is the perfect example of someone who gets away with being a jerk because his restaurant somehow keeps on getting customers. I will never go back.

I had been wanting to try Ama for quite some time, having walked by many times and been attracted by the decor, and based on some of the reviews online. But alas, looks and reviews do not overcome mediocre food, poor service and bland atmosphere. We had the octopus & artichokes as starters, and Veal & fish of the day as mains. All was consistently boring and tasteless. The single waiter covering the whole restaurant was overworked, and the owner who was helping him was apathetic and distracted. Perhaps we caught them on a bad night, but that of course does not excuse the food. With so many other great restaurants in the neighborhood, this one just doesn't stack up.

Had the recommended dished: octopus salad, zuppa di pesce, zucchini fritters, baccala, and pasta with sausage. Portions were tiny, food was average, some people got special bread, and zucchini was oily and soggy. Ordered the pasta as a middle course, which was forgotten and was forced at the end after repeated requests to cancel. The hostess had an attitude and was disingenuous. If you don’t want to work don’t show up. This place is tight - maybe 5 inches between tables. No hard liquor is available either. Staff was lost, food came with no original waiter and had to be identified and shifted by customer. This is a joke given the size of the place. Hated the attitude here. Made you feel you were lucky to dine here, but customers looked like B&T crowd, should have been the first clue to leave. For the price other places are highly recommended.
