If you go to Amy Ruths, you go for only one reason: chicken and waffles. It is simply the best in NYC. Period. If you go for the comfort, ambience or decor, you'll be greatly disappointed. If you go and order something else, it will be catch as catch can and you're on your own.

Best Mac & Cheese in town. Collard greens were great. Short ribs were excellent. Fried chicken wings were no big deal. Staff was wonderful. Can't wait to come back and try their other options. Go to Sylvia's for the experience but when you are done being a tourist go to Amy Ruth's for simple great food.

I ate here yesterday and from the beginning i was dissatisfied. I could not substitute the cornbread for just a regular slice of bread...Is the cornbreadt that cheaply made that i have to take it or no bread at all? After i refused the cornbread the staff including Management became upset and my service was the worst i ever received in a NY sitting. I ordered the Kidd Capri with Mac n cheese and steamed okra. He should make them remove his name. I was give 3 miniature salmon patties on a slice of lettuce. The Mac n cheese in a bowl. The steamed hard okra was on the plate with the salmon patties and the patties were soaked with okra juice. A 18 year old young man told me never to eat their and i made the grave mistake of eating there anyway. I woke up this morning and my stomach felt very queezy. I went to the toilet and...well you know how the story goes. This is the first time in my life i have ever been sick from a restaurant. This place is surviving only on its reputation from the past. I looked around and everyone had the fried chicken but me. Anyone can fry chicken you just season it and throw it in a tub of grease. I know the cook and that is the only reason i ate the food. THE COOK ONLY PREPARES THE FOOD. MANAGEMENT KEEPS THE FOOD STORED UNTIL IT IS PURCHASED. THE SALMON WAS OLD AND MY STOMACH HURTS. THE STAFF WAS NASTY TO ME AND MY STOMACH HURTS. ALL I WANTED WAS A SLICE OF PLAIN BREAD AND MY STOMACH HURTS.

Unlike Sylvia's, Amy Ruth's has continued to produce delicious dishes in a timely manner, that have you smacking your lips---despite becoming much more popular with a host of diverse patrons. My boyfriend and I brought our parents there for dinner, and it did not disappoint. The catfish is my favorite, although, the honey dipped fried chicken tastes as if my late grandma was in the back kitchen with her cast iron pan. Can the wait be long sometimes, absolutely. Is the decor as nice as Per Se or Perilla? No. But it's not supposed to be. It's intimate, and it's about the food, and if really good food is what the focus is, I'm OK with that.

My husband took me to Amy Ruths so I could enjoy some Chicken and Waffles. Reservations not accepted , so they say, so there's usually a line outside of the front door. When we arrived tables were available, but the host motioned for us to stay outside. A line began to form behind us, yet the host never came outside to greet us. 10minutes go by and a person goes in to alert the host that their party of 4 had arrived. Still never addressing the line of patrons outside, the host opens the front door and tells us to move to the side so the small party can come through. I asked the host how long the wait would be, and inquired about the empty tables, and he said those tables were reserved so we just have to wait. (Large parties are seated upstairs- no reservations for small parties) My husband felt so offended by the host that he made us leave, and insists that I boycott. I am willing to take the occasional mistreatment to enjoy those wonderful waffles, but I guess my husband is right.

I am insulted that I was served such bad food. \ The Mac & Cheese was luke warm, and the cheese looked like it had been re warmed. The short ribs of beef was terrible. The meat was luke warm and the meat smelled and tasted metalic. I order the spare ribs, which were good, but the pork chops were hard, I order the banna pudding, and it was terrible. I was ashamed that I told my daughter about the restaurant. She took me there for a Mother's day gift. She apologized to me and told me that she will take me to another restaurant next week. I would not recommend Amy Ruth Restaurant to anyone. Ms. Amy Ruth would be ashamed of her son for giving his customers this kind of food. I respect Ms. Ruth and my she rest in peace. But to the person who is running her place now. I say shame on you Sir.

My second visit to Amy Ruth's was not as pleasant as the first. A friend and I went for an early Saturday evening dinner and although there was no line and plenty of seating in the main floor dining area, we were ushered upstairs to the second floor "dining" area which has exposed insulation in parts of the ceiling, poor lighting and distastefully hung sheets attempting to separate what I assume was the food preparation area from where we were dining. It was difficult to get the attention of our waiter throughout the meal. Both my friend and I were planning to order additional entrees "to go", but before we were able to do so we were brought our bill by one of the men busing tables. Our original waiter, though still in the area waiting on other customers, never took the time to ask us if we needed anything else or to thank us for our patronage. The kind of service that I would expect at a fast food spot and not a fine restaurant that prides its self on it's, "comfort, cuisine, courtesy and culture." A heartbreaking experience because the food truly is divine.

my family gave a birthday party at Amy Ruth's the food was great price was even better. Service was a little slow but they did the best to make us happy and that was more than we could ask for. I will go back again for a more relaxed dinner with my husband. Best food I've had in a long time takes me back to grandma's cooking
