Amazing food, staff, atmosphere, I can't rave enough!

I absolutely love this place! It was by far one of the best dinners I've ever had in the city. The atmosphere was wonderful - a cute little one-room restaurant with a giant exposed wood-burning oven that makes the lighting in the restaurant so nice and romantic (I live for restaurant atmosphere). The food was to die for. My boyfriend and I split the Gambero (shrimp and chorizo) appetizer (which was DELICIOUS) and he ordered the rib-eye steak while I order the chicken. Now this place is certainly not known as a steakhouse, but I tasted the steak and we can both honestly say it was easily one of the top 3 best steaks we've ever tasted. We even told the waiter this and he laughed and said they actually get told that often. My chicken was amazing and the portion sizes were unbelievable, yet so good we ate it all! When dessert time came around, we were excited to order the cheesecake but disappointed to learn that it was no longer on the menu (although our waiter tipped us off to a secret that they actually used to get the cheesecake from a place down the street and we could easily go pick up some there!) So instead we ordered the apple pecan crumble and went home stuffed and happy. All-in-all, wonderful atmosphere, amazing food, friendliest wait staff, fantastic wine selection, reasonable prices... I can't WAIT to go back!

Manager was such an ass, I never made it to the food.

I have never been treated with such disrespect from a restaurant manager. Unfortunately I arrived 15 minutes past my reservation time and was scolded for being late and told that my table had been given away. Then, instead of offering to have us wait at the bar until the next table became available (like any other host in the city would have done) we were given the cold shoulder and told maybe there would be something available in 45 minutes. Although we did not feel particularly welcome we took it upon ourselves to put our names back on the list and go to the bar. After waiting patiently for 45 minutes, our unfriendly manager reluctantly visited us and said he could probably seat us downstairs, but if we wanted to wait for an upstairs table it would be a lot longer of a wait. Since we had never stated a preference and he made the downstairs sound incredibly unappealing, I asked if there was some reason we shouldn't dine downstairs. He mumbled something about it being for walk-ins and as he was clearly becoming increasingly irritated with our presence, we went ahead and asked him why he was being so rude and unaccommodating to us... at which point he said he no longer had any tables available for us and we could leave. so we did.

Short Rib Gnocci & Mushroom Polente

Although I came into dinner here not expecting much of anything as it was a hastily organized going-away dinner for 12+ people, I was incredibly impressed and satisfied with the delicately crafted plates and the accompanying powerful punches of taste. I will absolutely go back and try everything else on the menu - bellisimo!

Perfect Balance

Apizz strikes the perfect balance in so many ways: delicious food yet moderate prices, polite yet casual wait staff, romantic yet stylish interior! We asked if we could have 4 courses (antipasta, pasta, pesce and dolce) and share them all. This was no problem at all! The whole oven baked fish was exquisite. We even requested a desert that was not on the menu (affogato al caffe) and this too was welcomed, and charged only $ 5. Definitely one of the very best restaurants in the city!

Had a party of 12 in Apizz' private room downstairs for saturday night birthday meal. the staff was extremely accommodating and nice , despite some guests being late, etc. our meal was fantastic, I had the skate....and an excellent wine list. can't say enough about the service here. made us feel special. THANK YOU.

I had a wonderful meal at Apizz the other night. The atmosphere is extremely cozy and romantic for those of you who want to take a date here. The service was great as well, and to top it off the food was to die for. Definitely try the gnocchi al ragu. Sensational.

pretty to look at

I would defintley go back here, but just for the ambiance. the food was so so and was definitley overpriced. Portion sizes were good and the waiter was attentive but both the food and table service lacked the luster that should be minimum with $30 entrees. But if you find yourself in the area, stop by for a drink...the exposed brick and lighting scheme can't be beat.

Apizz is a beautiful restaurant that is perfect for a splurge on creative italian cuisine. Our server gave fantastic suggestions for pairing wine with our choices of primi and secondi dishes. Whatever you do, make sure that someone in your party gets the open ravioli with carmelized butternut squash, you will want to lick the plate clean! The low orange lighting added to the relaxing mood. Apizz is also easy to get to, it's close to the 2nd Ave subway stop. I am already looking forward to going back!

love the decor, cozy warm and great lighting, small restaurants give so much more personal touch, and when you have good food, it all adds up to a great place, i really liked this place alot.

my new Italian love interest

Came here last night for the first time and loved it. my favorite combination of elements - rustic, unfussy atmosphere, laid-back but excellent service, and of course, fantastic food. from the bread served with ricotta to the tasty pizzas and toothsome pastas, everything was creative but not trendy, hearty but sophisticated. I didn't have room for a real dessert but the gelato was topnotch. yum. I've been terribly devoted to Lupa for years, but I may have to start seeing Apizz on the side.
