Best Place in Manhattan for Breakfast
By omotosando on 9/24/2004
I've been numerous time for breakfast and once for lunch. It has got to be the best place in Manhattan for breakfast - stunning views, if you go after 9:00 a.m., you can usually have the restaurant to yourself and the breakfasts are not that pricey given the location and stunning room (but watch out - they automatically put an 18% tip on the breakfast tab - I didn't notice this my first few times and was leaving a 20% tip on top of that). The waiters are very sweet and attentive (although a few of the women at the front desk are a bit haughty and pretentious). The tea is on the mediocre side - very suprising given it's the Mandarin Oriental for goodness sakes (they have mostly gimmicky teas, rather than just plain old high-quality straight-up tea). I said something about it to the manager and he looked at me like I was a lunatic. Lunch was good, but not great. I doubt given the prices and the plethora of wonderful restaurants in Manhattan that I would rush to have dinner there.
The Perfect Restaurant?
By PaulUK on 8/29/2004
First of all, this is the first review I have ever written on the internet... so, why start on Asiate? Well, here is why. When I go to a restaurant I want good food. Thats the bottom line. The food me and my partner ate at Asiate was amazing. The service was brilliant, even down to "little gifts" from the chef during each course. It honestly was the best restaurant I have ever eaten at. Next, the views. Well if anyone can show me a better view than looking over Central Park and the Hudson then I really want to see it. I know that views don't make the food taste better, but they certainly make the whole experience better. The decor was very nice. A glass, walnut and silver theme is obviously present and works very well. Overall I have to give this restaurant 9.5 out of 10. The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is because there is always room for improvement... actually, saying that I don't know if this can get any better...
Views stunning, food awful

The restaurant and views were both stunning however the food was tasteless and the service very poor. I've had better food in Asian street markets. The sauce of one of the starters was spilt all over the carpet. It wasn't replaced nor cleaned up. We have complained to the restaurant but have had no response.

Besides a beautiful view and nice decor, the food was excellent and well presented. The staff was attentive and very professional. In response to mar, we not once felt rushed (we were there for about 2 hours) and the staff did an excellent job describing the menu. This was an outstanding dining experience and a good value for the $65 prix fixed dinner.
