We visited the restaurant three times. The food was innovative and delicious; especially the soft shell crab sandwich and the mussels. The selection of wines were great and we loved the new location; walking distance from the theater area and Bryant Park.

Service was great even though the restaurant was very full on a Saturday evening. Reservation was hard to get but i just headed over to Tablexchange. We had oysters and the sashimi appetizer. Both were great. Main course was the Tasmanian Salmon and the Scallops. Both were so full of flavor and cooked perfectly. Dessert we had the berries and of course they brought out all the little extra desserts as a compliment of the restaurant. We left very happy and can not wait to return. http://nyc.tablexchange.com/restaurant/aureole

Avoid this place. Shoddy and cynical, Aureole leaves a nasty taste in the mouth in every sense. Lobster tortelloni were tough and lacking in flavour, indeed evidence, of lobster. And we had barely begun to sample the awfulness of the cooking in this place. The Halibut main course where the rim of the nasty sweet pink sauce was baked onto the plate had clearly been pre-cooked and reheated. The entire dish was rubbery, sweet, greasy and disgusting; the chicken and pork dishes of my companions no better. There simply cannot have been anyone competent in the kitchen tasting the food. Could this grim place still have a laugh at our expense if we opted for cheese rather than dessert? Oh yes. We were presented the meanest slivers of five cheeses so meager they could barely be tasted. Smaller than the pieces youÂ’d be willingly given to taste at a cheese counter, the portions seemed to be defined as the smallest shard feasible before it disintegrates into dust.
After having sampled the obsessive and inspirational Wylie DufresneÂ’s WD 50, and the zingy freshness and flavour-intensity of the delightful Lupa, Aureole is a miserable come-down.

I visited Aureole on 7/29, at 7:00 P.M. and was amazed to discover that the food in this restaurant was lacking one key ingredient - FLAVOR!!! The food was bland to the point of being comical, until I received the bill and then it wasn't funny anymore. The soft shelled crabs were cooked perfectly but other than that, this restaurant is a failure.
Regretfully,
Dissatisfied Customer

the food is virtually perfect, the service is great. it's very expensive, but the flavours are perfectly matched, the food is sublime. We came in, my boyfriend wearing a collared dress shirt. They brought him a suit jacket to wear, this was a bit uncomfortable. And overall, the people are kinda stuffy... but again, the food is great.

Aureole continues to be at the top of its game! The food is extraordinary, and the wine selections are perfect. Service cannot be improved upon.

Aureole has and continues to be a true American classic. The stately upper East side townhouse provides the right blend of American and European influences. The menus and food are noteworthy, and the portions are substantial. However, being seated at the back of the long narrow room does create a less than spectacular dining experience, knowing the front of the room is light and lively. Service can be wonderful or spotty, vs. the expectation that it should be perfect.

My fiance and I just came back from a very dissapointing experience.
The food was nothing special and the timing of the service was very off.
I think Picholine BLOWS this place away.

This was THE great place where the kitchen flew the flag for super-quality American food, in a gracious townhouse setting with wonderful flowers and a slightly hip, moneyed WASP atmosphere. Several facelifts later, I still like the interiors--it stil feels swank and American--but my lunch had several bo boos along the way, and influences other than American have crept in--the food is sitll quite good, but I think the competiiton has raced ahead and the American statement is no longer important.

Food, atmosphere and service are always on point at Aureole. Whether you're with clients, colleagues or friends you're assured a good time and a yummy meal.
If you can wait until 2 PM for lunch, you can even get the prix fixe for $20! That's what I call a real value add.
