One of the most creative Italian restaurants in NYC

Hands-down one of my favorite Italian places: interesting menu, great food, nice ambience (good place for conversation).

The decor and the ambiance are great. Small restaurant that clearly packs a punch. However, food and service not okay. The fried calamari with the mayonnaise sauce was absolutely delicious. The pasta dish that I ordered was uncooked. Terribly undercooked. I took one bite and waited for my fiance to finish eating so we could leave. The waiter seemed as though he was in another world - consistently looking confused, walking back and forth through tables like a teacher making sure no one was cheating on a test. Very odd behavior. I won't be returning because it is especially easy to notice when pasta is not cooked properly and if the cooking staff failed in seeing so, it's quite embarrassing and unfortunate for a restaurant.

My family often goes back to Aurora. The food varies seasonally and there are daily specials so its never the same old dish...but always the same excellent quality. The appetizers are so good that sometimes we just order multiples of those. Pasta and rice dishes are superb. And the main dishes are also excellent. My only disappointment is in the desserts, which I find ordinary and typical of all the other restaurants around. Oh, and one other...I wish they also had a whole grain bread on table.

The Soho outpost is barely okay in comparison. Food is decent, though not nearly as good as the Brooklyn location. And the ambiance is lacking in direction. The place seems to design itself from the Brooklyn version, but does not know how to do so in a different space. The service is also lacking. While we found our servers to be lovely, our waitress seemed almost bored. She did not tell us the specials, as would normally happen in Bklyn. The only time she smiled at us was when we ordered a second glass of wine each. It's relatively inexpensive, if you stay to app's and pastas, but who cares when there's so much more to choose from?

I went there last Tuesday and I had the best restaurant experience ever. My waitress was so nice and she described all the specials although I had it in my hand. She suggested the linguine with sea urchin it was so good and perfectly cooked. She also suggested a wine with a funny name that was delicious. The place is very warm it makes you feel you are in the countryside of Italy. I canÂ’t wait to go back.

I am Italian and I have to admit; the Italian restaurants I eat in are a very few. Aurora is one of them. It is incredible for me to find food as good as my own country. I have been going there for a while now and pretty much tasted every item on the menu, compliments to the chef. The menu changes seasonally, so I can keep coming back and not tire of the same old menu. This is the only place I go where the main course doesnÂ’t disappoint me. Everywhere you go the appetizers are good but the main dish is heavy and flavorless. The main courses at Aurora are perfectly portioned and leave room for my favorite course, dessert. The staff is very knowledgeable and accommodating.

Absolutely one of my favourite restaurants in NY from now on. I had a wonderful experience. The staff and atmosphere are great and competent. If you love food this is the place to go, the halibut is so flavorful and the shrimp appetizer melt in your mouth. My frend had the home-made papardele and she said it was divine. Extended and affordable wine list. I will defenately go back

We tried to have dinner there tonight, but the service was so terrible, we had to leave. Actually, we were told (by the manager) that we had 15 more minutes to finish our meal before we even ordered our main course! We will never let any of our friends go here and hopefully none of you will either! There are many other restaurants in this city that are so much better in every way.
Beware the luscious haired shark

An otherwise pleasant meal was tainted by two small, related incidents. First the luscious haired manager upsold us hard on overpriced wine. Nothing unusual but not very classy. Perhaps not even notable until the charming Spanish couple sat next to us and while chatting asked the same guy for a recommendation. He recommended the 'delicious' truffle pasta. Didn't bother to mention that it was $120 - almost 10x the price of anything else. Needless to say this couple who'd popped out for a glass of wine and a small meal were pretty upset when the bill came. No apology. Told they should have looked at the menu. I can't tell you if its their business strategy to fleece tourists. But here's some news for them. Even folks from out of town can write a review.

WE VISITED THIS RESTAURANT ON 27TH OCTOBER, A SATURDAY, IT WAS BUZZY RATHER THAN NOISY, THE MENU WAS INTERESTING AND DIFFERENT, SERVICE TIP TOP, FOOD VERY GOOD, DECOR MUCH AS ONE WOULD EXPECT OF A SOHO RESTAURANT, BRICK/INDUSTRIAL/RUSTIC, WOULD CERTAINLY RETURN AGAIN WHEN NEXT IN NEW YORK FROM THE UK.
