Was expecting more...arrived to a near-empty restaurant with a friend for brunch. Ordered the smoked salmon platter, which was sparse and disappointing and served with tiny mini-bagels. Also got a smoked salmon Benedict which was truthfully inedible - was able to swallow half of one. It was served n a slice of toast cut into a circle, which was immediately soggy from the grilled tomato and way-too-garlickey-sauteed spinach set on top of it. The Hollandaise was salty and tasted like it was from a mix. The country potatoes were mixed with red peppers and even the potato tasted like it was a pepper itself - not good at all. Plates were cleared by a busboy before we could comment on the food to our server. The service was otherwise friendly and attentive but there is definitely better breakfast to be had in NYC.

After reading review "this was the pits," I was apprehensive, but my experience here was great. There was one problem, my salmon was too rare. The General Manager personally apologized for the error and corrected it a.s.a.p.! The bread pudding is to die for as well. I was lucky enough to be there when B. Smith herself was around, too. She came by to ask how our meal was. I had a great time and will come back soon.

I wanted to have a special night in NY. I got great tickets to a play and wanted to treat my partner to a great meal as well. I looked on this web page and read the reviews it was close to the theater so I booked a reservation. This place was the pits. The food was greasy and expensive. The pomegranate remolded salmon was hickory smothered barbeque sauce. It was gross. The famous mac and cheese not so famous and not good at all that was the replacement dish for the bad salmon. Than they proceeded to charge me for the returned dish. I would never recommend this to anyone. Stay away and keep looking for another restaurant.

Went to B. Smiths for dinner and had a simply wonderful time. I had been wanting to go there for years. We went on a Friday night after the pre-theatre crowd. I read some of the other reviews here, and it seems to me that the restaurant must have changed chefs and/or menus. Our food was delicious. (The service was superb.) I had snapper with caviar lentils on a bed of greens. The fish was so delicious, the lentils so delicate and tasty and the greens were seasoned in a way that was new to me. The decor is just right. It's nicely lighted so you don't have to use a flashlight to read the menu. Overall, it was a wonderful experience.

B.Smiths is a solidly stylized restaurant with better then average food and higher then average prices! If you feel like having a meal in pretty sourroundings with attentive service and choices that appeals to both children and adults this might be for you. For kids, do not miss the macaroni and cheese. For adults,a dish called "The Swamp Thang," was an interesting and flavorful combination of shell fish and sauteed collared greens. The salads were nothing unusual and they receive a demerit in my book for doling out stale, hard rolls one at a time; we would prefer a basket of fresh rolls offered freely at the table. Still, B. Smiths is a good pre-theater choice with a lively bar scene, adequate food and enough action to keep the kids attention.

While the food was not 100% up to par, they were able to make up for it witt their excellent service...I would go again, but this time I know what to order

I must say B Smith is very personable and attentive to the customers, and I wish I could say the food was as good. Service was fine, but that might have been more related to the number of empty tables - which made the ambience seem a bit more soulful than the soul food. Walking by hungry, I'd stop in, but not worth going out of the way.
