Babbo lives up to its reputation. The dishes are interesting, daring, and so very delicious. My only complaint is that I'd love to visit Babbo more often, if only I could afford the large bill. The food is worth the price however, for at least one visit.

I'm confused! I came across this site looking for information about another restaurant and noted the extreme differences in reviews. I've been to Babbo and I decided to see if the same existed and if the experiences were similar to mine. I discovered more of the same and based on some of these reviews you might not go. However, I consider Babbo one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. I made a last minute reservation and was pleased to get a table for two at 10:00 on a Saturday night (as not to have to drive back to CT afterwards we stayed in the city). We waited only 10 minutes at the bar, no big deal. We were escorted upstairs and waited on hand and foot by everyone. The recomended wine was paired perfectly with the meal (plus I was charged less than my stated budget). The food was outstanding beyond description and the staff did not miss a single thing. Every aspect of this eating experience was perfect and for NYC I would say the price was very reasonable. I can't wait to go back to Babbo again!

The food and service were phenomenal. My many questions and requests for specific recommendations were accommodated. We never felt rushed despite a full house and a very famous person actually waiting in the vestibule to be seated. Our table was at the top of the service staircase. I guess some would consider it an iffy seat but I loved it! I saw everything that came into the upstairs dining room. I had the grilled octopus and thought it was the best thing I ever put into my mouth until I ate the HUGE plate full of the black spaghetti with rock shrimp. Everything was served steaming hot, the pasta perfectly al dente. Dessert was a walnut and honey torta with gelato and pomegranate seeds. The waiter's wine-pairing recommendations were perfect. The ONLY negative thing I can say is the red leaf salad was plain and underdressed by my standards. The upstairs room was beautiful and cozy. The atmosphere was business casual. My husband wore jeans and didn't feel the least out of place. I would bring restaurant-seasoned children here. I would bring a date if my husband would give his blessing and pay for the meal.

overall a wonderful experience on our anniversary, the food especially was absolutely tremendous, we had the traditional tasting menu with the wine selection and were nearly blown away. perfect combinations of ingredients coupled with the right choice of wine is hard to come by in most places (i am usually terrified of tasting menus as a rule). one minor detail: too much staff. we sat upstairs, and the floors were shaking from the amount of waiters running around all the time. peace and quiet is not necessary in this place, but they could do with less people working there

Thrilled to get in on the first seating of the waiting list. Disappointed with the bartender as we waited for our table. He was very snobbish and purposely ignored us. The rest of the staff was wonderfully accomodating. We were the last on the list but received the best table! Our Service Manager Jim was outstanding!!! We were going to go with the tasting menu to get variety, but decided to order several different dishes and share. Jim matched what we ordered with the perfect wine selection. We could not have been more pleased with the entire experience after sitting down. Food was fabulous, service great (except the male bartender). We had a night to be remembered.

I can easily say that Babbo is my favorite restaurant in the city! Everything was wonderful about my experience. Service was the best!

I will try to conserve space, as raving about Babbo seems about as helpful to the general public as noting the skill of number 23 while he played ball. Every time I've been to Batali's flagship, I've been so satisfied. Don't bother with the entrees -- start with the cockles and then load up on pasta; some of my favorites include black spaghetti and both raviolis. Service is a highlight, with waitstaff unbelievably pleasant and sommelier someone to be trusted. It's not fun re-dialing for fifteen minutes starting at 10am one month to the numerical date in advance, but it remains worth one's while.

We just completed reading the negative reviews that were posted. Are you people here living on earth? Do you have no dining sense at all? Let me tell you about Mario's place, Babbo. We made our reservation a month in advance and flew in from Toronto Canada on the July 4th long weekend. This was probably the highlight of our weekend to NYC. Upon entering Babbo we were treated with the utmost regard. We were a few minutes early but were able to get our seating right away. In short, the wait staff were not only knowledgeable about all menu items, but also extremely accommodating to our every need. The Sommelier was kind and took the time to explain our wine choice(s), made alternative reccommendations and was well versed in the art of wine. The food - second to none. I won't get into everything we had that evening but the Porcini mushroom tasting menu was amazing as was the carne cruda. Everything else was WOW! As an Italian myself, I am somewhat discriminating when it comes to Italian restaurants. But Babbo meets all of my expectations and then some. We've dined in some of the best 5-Star restaurants in the U.S. and we can confindently say that Babbo is at the top of our list. Overpriced? No! Pretentious? No! Value for money? Absolutely! We can't wait to go back and experience once again the true dining experience.

Ask for Adrian, the amazing sommelier, to pair your food & wine... and you will be transported into another dimension. Never in my life have I tasted such flavors--and I have traveled the world. I still get goose bumps just thinking about it.
