Terrible experience! You ruined my night!
By faacon on 2/13/2016
It was my second time at Babbo. I chose the place because I wanted a romantic Italian atmosphere after the Opera so... The food was OK, the wine was OK - although very pricy, few bottles below $100, even the ordinary ones that you usually pay $40 in other places - but the point of my disappointment was the terrible loud heavy-metal rock music playing non-stop in a very pumped up volume! I could't even talk to my partner and had difficulties communicating with the waiter... I felt like I was at an Irish Pub instead! Those ones with Live music! I tried real hard to forget about that but it was really annoying... I complained to the waiter and he said he couldn't do anything about it as it was a "manager's" choice! After that I had no options but ask for the check and leave without finishing my pasta and my vino... Congratulations Mr. Manager, you ruined what was supposed to be the perfect night for me! Hope to never see you again.

We were SO fortunate to get a table early last Friday for an amazing dinner....the tagliatelle with parmasiana and grated white truffle was "to die for" and the service was wonderful as usual. Thank you so much!

Terrible Service but the food was good!

I went to Babbo for dinner on 4/15. My parents were in from out of town and I thought taking them to what is supposed to be the best Italian food in NYC would be a real treat for them. Our waiter was somewhat curt with us and definitely not friendly, When one of my companions found a hair in her plate, he rudely remarked that it wasn't his and did nothing else to remedy the situation. I had to flag the maitre'd down to get a new entree. This seemed to only worsen the waiter's disposition. Even ordering desert was the chore with this guy. He was even rude to my elderly mother. In the end , we didn't throw a fit so as not to ruin the evening, but for a place on this level, i really think we were treated terribly. That being said, the guinea hen and mushroom 'sformato were excellent, though the Sicilian Lifeguard style calamari was bland an unexciting. I hope we were just unlucky with the waiter, b/c the food was quite good.
Excellent Food and service

The food was spectacular.....I was impressed they could deliver high quality food with such an extense menu. The only cons would be that the music is totally disconnected from the restaurant's environment

Ask for Adrian, the amazing sommelier, to pair your food & wine... and you will be transported into another dimension. Never in my life have I tasted such flavors--and I have traveled the world. I still get goose bumps just thinking about it.
Food Ok- Drinks over the top
By jerseydan on 8/7/2011
The food was ok and their food prices reasonable, most of the staff is very nice but I found our waiter only helpful if we did not ask to much of him. The drinks are very expensive and that portion hiked our bill way to high in my opinion. Shame on us for not asking but a house glass of wine was $25.00. I wanted a nice dinner but felt the drinks were way too expensive. Since getting a good value is important to me, I would ask what they charge for a drink next time.
Rudest, most arrogant maitre d' in the city.
By elizsmart on 5/12/2011
We live in the neighborhood and have been to Babbo twice. We would go far more often; however dealing with the extremely rude and arrogant maitre d' is just not worth it. He is condescending and downright nasty. Beware and take your business to a Batali restaurant with better service.
Great all around

I came here with a friend of mine and I have to say we weren't disappointed. The service was great and attentive and the several dishes we split were amazing. If your in the area you should definitely give it a try
