To look at, the place is lovely; cozy and intimate. As soon as both the wine list and menu required further explanation, I became slightly suspect. When it took the bartender four different wines before he gave me something I just settled on b/c I couldn't be bothered anymore, I knew things were not looking good. We ordered five appetizers and shared. The fried rice balls, baked asparagus and egg, anchovy and string bean salad, stuffed artichoke, octopus and potato salad. Of the lot, the fried rice balls was the only decent offering. The baked asparagus and egg was completely unseasoned with the egg arriving raw, the string beans (w/ the anchovies) were completely uncooked; absolutely raw, the artichoke was the opposite-cooked gray with a very loosely interpreted "stuffing," and the octopus was very clearly not fresh-it should never have been served. Both "salads" were served in a pool of olive oil. The anchovy salad had an entire raw clove of garlic in it.
To boot (excuse the pun), I was quite sick this morning. Don't waste your time or your health on this one.

let's hope the recession sweeps this away..

My wife and I found this place on recommendation of a bartender down the street and loved it! Great atmosphere, tasty food, excellent wines + super nice staff. Would recommend this to my pickiest friends! This place is super cool. On the way out try the chamomile grappa - and good night captain...

Ambiance ten out of ten. The food was lacking though and i got the worst poisoning I've had in 15 years. Wonderful to look at but food hygiene has to be of paramount importance doesn't it?

Went there with two friends without reservation on saturday night for late diner (10ish)
After a drink at the bar upstairs while waiting for a table, we were sitted at the table for 6...where 3 other people were already dining: you like or not, it wasn t a problem for me.
The atmosphere is great, the decor is very interesting looking like a wine cave. The menu is not very diversified but quite consistent with the place and the concept of a bacaro.
The only probem i had with the restaurant was the food:
I had a frito misto: fried vegetables and seefood and it got me my first food poisoning!
My friend who had Cod was really desapointed as well and did not feel good.
My friend who had the risotto was ok with the dish.
What do you think about a restaurant/wine bar that cannot deliver for the food? Stick to what you know best: be a wine bar.
Thus, this place is great for a drink to avoid for a diner with friends...

I had a fantastic time here. From the moment I got out of the subway I felt a surge of excitement and anticipation. I loved the fact that this place was a little tricky to find and that the up-stairs (Bar area) was almost like a screen from the downstairs. We had the option of sitting upstairs or downstairs and luckily we decided on the latter. The downstairs “dinning room” is a maze of various cul-de-sacs with larger farm-house style tables and a very rustic interior. It really makes you feel as if you are eating in an old farm house somewhere in the Alpine region. Made me feel right at home.
The food was simple but OH SO GOOD…..I had the lasagna and loved every bite of it. The wine was fantastic and the service was friendly, helpful and pleasant.
I will be going back to this little Gem of a place and will most certainly be drinking many more glasses of vino in the basement of this.
