I loved the food there. Being indian myself, I am pretty picky when it comes to over priced indian food in the city ( manhattan) but i must this place was worth every penny. Not only is the atmosphere awesome, the food is off the hook!!!!

Unlike its warren-like competitors around the corner on 6th St., Banjara is somewhat spacious. It also has an interesting menu, with a number of non-routine, well-seasoned and generously-portioned dishes at reasonable prices. AVOID fried foods, though, which usually are encased in huge amounts of batter. Also, Banjara's too-bouncy floor can make for rough sailing from passing traffic, so try to sit in the more solid areas (if there are any). Service ranged from overbearing at the outset to inattentive later on. When I asked if they served tea in a pot, the waiter said "No." My wife ordered tea and it was served in a pot!

The service here was terrible. The waiters took an unfinished dish and non-empty beer bottles from the table even after we asked them not to, in an attempt to get us out the door quicker. They also refused to take a credit card because the charge was too big (?!). Food was good, though the portions weren't that big. Reasonable prices, but the wait staff kept trying to push unwanted extras.

I am in the restaurant business and this is one of my favorite restaurants. I eat here at least once a week. Despite the sophistication of the cuisine, it is also the absolute favorite restaurant of my picky 10 year old daughter. I have eaten here at least 100 times and have never had anything less than perfect food!!!!

With the rest of the East Village blooming with gourmet restaurant options, Sixth Street is no exception. Banjara's Northern Indian Mughal cuisine does not disappoint. Anything from the tandoor oven is a real treat. Additionally, for quantity and quality, the dumpahkt dishes (a superior Indian version of the pot pie) are worth the trip alone.

Yummmmm! The food here is fantastic, and great for all types of occasions. It is a great place to try Indian food for the first time... the staff is knowledgeable, if a little confused at times.

More inventive than its neighbors' "same old" Indian cuisine. The perfumed steam that rises when you pierce the pastry-topped dishes is sublime. Overly solicitous service could be curbed a bit, but that's not a major negative. I love this place!
