My husband, 13 year old daughter and I went for dinner because we are all fans of Bobby Flay and the Food Network. Going to Bar Americain was on all of our "bucket lists" and we are very pleased to say that the entire experience was better than we even expected! My husbands filet was perfectly prepared, as well as my daughter's Saturday special - philadelphia style steak. I chose to have a salad and appetizer; the chips and blue cheese sauce were amazing, but I wanted to save room for dessert. I am glad I did because the red velvet sundae was delicious! The service was excellent making the experience even more pleasant and delightful. We will definetly go again, and explore other Bobby Flay restaurants!

The food was devine. I had the Red Snapper and the other person I was with had the special, Fried Chicken. We had the Shrimp and grits for an appetizer as well. I highly recommend the shrimp and grits. Yesterday was our first time ever having grits and they were amazing. We also purchased a bottle of wine from their amazing wine list. The food was excellant and the service was just as great. We were from out of town and our waiter talked and joked around with us. We had a wonderful time.

I was very impressed with the service and the food. My kids were with us and they shared a plate with no extra charges....a surprise in NYC. Our waiter was superb! My fish was divine. The wine list was awesome! A little over priced though.

This place was awesome! I was so disapointed because they told us Bobby was there the nightbefore :(. I was to see him really bad. To start off I ordered the Artisonal Ham Tasting which was a prosciutto presented three ways. 1. mozerella with basil and roasted peppers or something like that that was very good. 2. in the middle of a mini bun that came with honey mustard which was awesome. and 3. with like diced mango and something on top which was, awkward. my mother got the onion soup which she liked and my dad got the shrimp and grits which he said was good. for our entrees, my mother and i got the filet mignon that came with the bobby flay steak sauce. The sauce is SO GOOD! My father got like red snapper I think which he raved about. For our side dishes, we got the potato chips and blue cheese (great), the fries americain with roasted red pepper mayo i think it was (excellent), and the creamed corn (superb).

We have been to Bar Americain numerous times. The service is always amazing-the reception staff is always pleasant and accomodating, the bartenders are always friendly & attentive & helpful regarding questions about the specialty drinks (the dark & stormy is great), the table waitstaff is always friendly & attentive & helpful with any menu questions (lamb chops are amazing & the duck is superb). The food is always excellent and the atmosphere is fun & lively. Everyone from local friends to visiting out of towners that have dined with us loved it too. It may be pricier than some places but it is well worth it.

Sorry, if you gave this place a bad review then you should stick to fast food places. A truly great dining experience. From entering the door to leaving everything was perfect. Classic food with truly top notch professional service in a striking decor. Great from appetizer to dessert including a wonderfully created vegetarian plate that is not on the menu. A must go for anyone that loves to eat and enjoy the whole dining experience.

Selected based on what we read in American Way (AA's) magazine (Nov 2005). Expensive coctails (average); Wonderful salads (try the Wild Mushroom w/ Quinea); entres of Smoked Chicken and Pork Chop (both were excellent tasting and well presented); Sides of Fries and Sweet Potato Hash (excellent); Fried Chocolate Pie and Apple Crepes for dessert (excellent). Chef Flay was in the kitchen and his wife (Stepahnie March of L&O SVU fame) was enjoying a meal.

I wasn't a Flay follower until some friends & fellow food lovers insisted his restaurants were worth a visit. I took my parents to Bar & was utterly surprised at how much we all enjoyed it. I'm now a believer in Flay & cannot wait to try Mesa someday. I'm a side dish kind of girl & every "accoutrement", from bread basket to veg was so flavorful. Even the coffee was splendid! The dessert was a bit disappointing but Flay has admitted it isn't his forte. Highlights were the crab cake (delicate bites of crab with little cakiness), the sweet potato gratin, & potato chips with blue cheese dip (I'm now converted to liking blue cheese because of this...dip your baguette in it). The filet mignon was quite nice but I will try a fish/seafood dish next time. The only gripe I had was that we were seated in a very awkward area near the noise & traffic of the kitchen which I would avoid if possible.
