Bobby Flay's newest entry is clearing designed to capatilize on his "brand", especially given its tourist trade location. In fact, the service is so poor that serious diners, even those who are fans of Bolo and Mesa Grill are sure to be disappointed as we were. What Mr. Flay doesn't realize is that "branding" depends on customer satisfaction and substance. A brand is as much about the people who deliver it as it is about the product itself. Unfortunately, Bar Americain fails in both areas.

What a huge disappointment! A group of us went for dinner to celebrate a birthday. The service was lacking from the moment we sat down. Drinks took forever to order and to arrive at the table. Raw oysters were frozen to their shell. A steak ordered medium was delivered just as done as a rare filet. The service did not improve even after speaking with the manager several times. The last straw was the bill. For a pleasant experience the price would still seem steep - but for us, it was utterly atrocious. Shame on you, Bobby Flay! New York deserves better than this.

Wow - I've had better service and food at at TGIFridays. Mr. Flay needs to spend more time in the kitchen and less mugging for the TV camera. Based on this place, he wouldn't even be the Tin Foil Chef. There's no excuse for serving overcooked steak, frozen oysters, forgetting parts of the order, and long waits without even seeing a waiter.

My gf and I read good reviews of Bobby's place both here and in Zagats. Unfortunately, our experience turned out to be anything but good. Service during the entire evening was subpar at best. I spent nearly 10% of the evening with my head turned around like I had just landed the leading role in the Exorcist sequel looking for my waiter. Other waiters noticed my inability to find "my guy" but didn't do anything about it. Then the sommelier came... I told her I was in the mood for a nice Tuscan and wasn't looking to be economical in the selection. She recommended one which had to have been one of the worst reds imaginable. By the end of the evening it was undrinkable. Then the food came. The appetizers were mediocre but not horrid. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the main courses. We had the tuna and the mussels, both of which were absolutely disgusting. I've had better food on planes - flying economy!! Don't go! There are so many great places in this City and I assure you THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM!

The food was god awful and insulting- the guy below nails it. Gave a 2 for overall simply due to this crapateria having Six Point on tap.

2 years ago I had a really lovely meal here. Now it was an entirely different and awful experience - lousy entrees and an unforgivably bad waiter for this level establishment. It started off poorly when the12 year old waiter forgot to put in our rather simple drink order for over a half hour. When prompted, his response was that he too would be bothered - we should have been impressed by how kind it was of him to notice it was annoying? Then our astonishingly bad entrees arrived. The "steak knife" presented was utterly useless against the leathery pork chop and when asked for another, Mr. Jr High opinioned that it wouldn't be any sharper. The duck breast was equally poorly prepared, tasteless and difficult to saw apart. Despite rather good vegetable sides as the only edible portions of the meal and a bus boy was genuinely concerned (apparently the only staff in the entire restaurant to have noticed how bad the entire evening was going), never has the experience of eating out been so extremely disappointing and unpleasant. HORRIBLE PLACE - there are too many good places in this town to waste money or time on this awfulness.

My brunch item was the most bland and tasteless thing I had eaten in months! I waited for the waiter to return so I could advise her that something had obviously been left out, but she never again came back while we sat there for almost an hour! Even when she brought the check, she never said 'how was the meal' (althought mine remained almost 90% untouched) - so I simply paid and left with the intention never to return. The only staff we saw between ordering and paying was the person who refilled the water and the always lukewarm coffee A real disappointment.

another case of the missing celebrity chef. i was on an expense account and felt ripped off ! a cavernous space where you can't hear yourself think, let alone carry on a conversation. nothing new or original on the menu

I am not a hard person to please and rarely write a review for a restaurant due to this very reason. However, I can not pass up the opportunity to do so for the recent experience I had at Bar Americain. The restaurant was miserably hot the evening of my reservation due to a problem with the air-conditioning. However, we were not informed of this issue upon our arrival. In fact, we were not informed of this problem until our waiter, Ian, had seemed to disappear and another waiter temporarily took over service of our table. We were told Ian was not able to tolerate the heat and was taking a break to splash his face and wrists with cold water; all be it, while we sat in the sweltering heat! Upon Ian's return, our table of 3 was subsequently ignored while he focused his attention on a larger table of 9. He even went so far as to open the doors to the wine refrigerator for this table while the rest of his section, made up of smaller tables I might add, melted in the oppressive heat! We had to repeatedly ask for refills on our drinks, which you can imagine we went through quickly. It was appalling that we were not informed of the problem with the air-conditioner upon our arrival, but it was inexcusable that there was no effort made to offer any compensation for the miserable conditions! To top it all off, the food was mediocre at best, and the only enjoyable part to the evening was the apple martini; although, it should have been comped! Don't waste your time or money!

Our company held a small xmas party of approx 50-60 people in their private room and we expected it to be awesome but the hand passed appetizers although were tasty were the tiniest we had ever seen about the size of your fingernail, most of the entrees that came out were cold and had to be sent back and the steak was made too rare even though the waiter was told to make it well done. The staff wasn't that attentive to our needs and didn't even offer us coffee/tea with our desserts. This restaurant should be able to handle a small affair and have the food all come out hot, no excuses!
