Disappointing New Year's Meal
By alexnewyork on 1/4/2010
Given the roaring talents of Terrance Brennan elsewhere in the city, I was surprised to find the food heavy handed and dis-spirited. My skate wing had the texture of the "fish" from fish and chips. Kind of like a grown-up fish stick. Dining companion's chicken under brick was tasty, but not something to return for soon. The wine list, ambiance, and side dishes were our favorites of the evening. All told, however, pricy bistro-type food without much soul.

Food was superb, the cocktails SUB PAR at best.
By tyedomi on 6/16/2009
A couple girlfriends and I went there last week. The food was superb, however the cocktails need some work, as does the attitude of the bar manager. Oh well. Did I mention the food was great.

Excellent! Service is now amazing!
By mdn on 7/28/2009
Great lunch deal-$21 for any 2 items + any dessert. Food was excellent. Service that some reviews and a few people have complained about was one of the very best I have ever encountered anywhere. My napkin had inadvertently fallen on the floor during my meal & I had not realized it. The waiter innocuously replaced it - picking it up in one swift motion & handing me a clean replacement. My friend, whose entree of cod was excellent but somewhat small, wanted a few more bites of my entree after his plate & silverware had been cleared away. As soon as I spooned some of my food on to his bread plate, our waiter brought over a fork & knife for my friend, without us having to signal to him. My entree of skate was excellent... one of he best I've had in the city. but since I am on a healthy eating kick, I'd have liked it even more if it wasn't fried & was pan roasted or baked instead.

Made me look great to future in-laws
By Antonio2177 on 1/11/2010
I choose Bar Artisanal for dinner for my Fiance and her parents, Saturday, January 9, at 8pm. We arrived on time and were offered to be seated or wait for our guests at the bar. We choose the bar. My fiance and I each had a 3oz serving of two great reds by the glass suggested by the bartender. Their wine list allowed us to taste a few wines to help us decide on a bottle for dinner. My in-laws arrived late but our table was waiting for us. We sat down and were offered the cheese menu. Chef Brennan is well known for his cheese selections and he did not disappoint. The waitress was very helpful in guiding us through the selections. We enjoyed the snacks, appetizers and entrees she suggested. We did not find the time to eat the fondue, but we MUST return.

Excellent Dining Experience
By hpwoods on 1/31/2010
I tried this restaurant recently with co-workers and we enjoyed every minute. Decor was very enviting and the staff was friendly and accomodating. We started with some snacks including the popcorn and spicy almonds. Next up we tried a bowl of the infamous french onion and the mushroom bisque. The lamb burger should not be missed. The stars of the show were our entrees. I recommend the short ribs, hanger steak and the arctic char with lentils were an instant favorite. Definately going back. Don't walk, run to this place. Actually, take the A train which conveniently leaves you at their doorstep. Buon Apetite! Delicious
By jdbklyn on 2/19/2010
Ive been twice and both times exceeded my expectations. The lamb burger, the croque madam and the pappardelle were impressive and my favorites. The cheeses are a must.
