I should have stayed home

I read your reviews & decided to try the food. Come to my apartment any night of the week & I'll cook you better food (& way better mac & cheese) than what I just experienced. The last time I tasted food like that was when I was attending a friend's family funeral in North Dakota. The wine was a bit pricey, but good. The music was a decent, fun mix. But, I would never pay for food like that again. I do admit, the guacamole was tasty. But, for $15, I would hope so. The mac & cheese ($14) was dripping in oil & served at 150 degrees w/ a healthy dose of black pepper, so I can't say I really tasted the pasta or the cheese. I also ordered the chillequilles, which is a favorite of mine, if made right. But again, I was reminded of a casserole I had in North Dakota (or as they call it, "hot dish"). Save your money & come have dinner at my home!

A great informal dinner experience

It is sometimes hard to ally good food and relaxed good fun. Bar @ Etats-Unis is the perfect place for an informal yet excellent low-key dinner and a glass of wine. The music selection is generally very good (and ranges from trip-hop to old school hip-hop and lounge-type electro). The crowd is diverse, and differs from typical UES wine bar crowd. I have never tried the cocktails there, but the wine selection is excellent, though a bit pricy at times. Despite the particularities of the place - all dishes are cold, or heated or cooked in the only cooking tools they have: an oven and a panini maker - the food is top notch. Their produce is fresh: the Boston lettuce, also featured across the street, is perhaps the best salad I have ever had in New York! The chocolate souffle is possibly 2000 calories but is a must for all chocoholics as it is to me, so far, unequaled in this city.

Bar none the best mojitos in Manhattan.

This tiny UES hole in the wall and its even tinier bar room across the street definitely delivers the goods with its varied but focused menu. Other than the lapse in wine pricing judgment and the wayward service, you'll get a kick out of the constant traffic of waiters shuffling food between the main kitchen and the sister bar restaurant across the street.
