New York's Italian Restaurant
By delancey on 1/1/2016
Bar Pitti is New York City in a restaurant. It is ongoing action--a perpetual collision of perfect smell and sound that entirely envelops all diners. Different languages fly past your ears, delicious dishes are whisked over your head, and the phenomenal peoplewatching of 6th Avenue entertains for the moments between meals. Yes, it moves fast. If you'd like a two-hour Olive Garden meal where the waiter does curtsies so you can leave a lousy 14% for your greasy garlic bread, don't come here. Don't bring a narcissistic desire to hog a table for three hours, either. Sit down, order the Rigatoni Pitti, the veal scallopini, the meatballs, the spinach, the lasagna special, etc., and eat. Don't stiff the waiter getting paid less than minimum wage because you're used to slower meals back in Arkansas. Enjoy Italian food unparalleled in its simplicity and taste, appreciate the most vibrant outdoor seating in the city, relish the prices that allow regular people to eat multiple courses even with Brad Pitt at the next table, and then give your table to another customer when the time comes. This city has never bent over to accommodate those who travel visit, and this restaurant has never done so either. Those who can appreciate New York find it has the best food, people, culture, and feeling of any American city. Those who can appreciate Bar Pitti find it's the best Italian in NYC. Take it or leave it, but don't whine about it, and don't stiff your waiter. I've been going for decades.

A real winner , the food is Fantastic as close to being in Florence Italy as it gets and some dishes better. Great crowd of people , small and very busy . Staff , makes it happen moving food out and in. Wine selection is great at every price point . A must go BRAVO BAR PITTI

I love the service, food is incredible, and at the atmosphere is great. They even speak italian so you feel like you are in Italy! They have a ton of daily specials and even the menu itself has a wide array of choices. I definitely recommend this place.
Rude and Socialy Unaceptabe
By aspenskier on 12/9/2013
They haven't a clue about good service or good food for that matter, wait staff was in a hurry to have our party of four leave, they made rude comments and cleared the table before we were finished!! Its not like we weren't spending money or nursing a drink! we ordered appetizers (for lack of a better publishable word!!) had a couple bottles of wine Oh and We Won't Be Back......
Pure Bullshit Italian restaurant

WARNING !!!! Save your money ...make that cash ! Briefly, how do feel about ordering garlic bread for $4.50 and getting 4 pieces of the table bread toasted and sprinkled with garlic powder? Does that tell you what kind of place this is? Dishes that are supposed to be grilled are drenched in saute oil. Service sucks! Waiters are condescending and rude. A request for lemon is met with eye rolling. NEXT !!!!
Inaccurate Profile - Allesandra

Though "THIS" profile is old - It begs the question... "Have you ever been to Bar Pitti?" It seems that EVERYONE in NYC other than Ms. Vallis and Silvano Marchetto know the real story and history of Bar Pitti from birth to present. Puzzling how NY Mag and Grub Street continue to be in the dark. I encourage you to visit and, perhaps, speak to it's creator Giovanni Tognozzi. Be sure to actually EAT there during your visit and write about the fabulous food at this authentic Greenwich Village monument of true trattoria cuisine in its purest form! You won't be disappointed ;)
Rushed out by staff and then expected to tip
By foxido on 10/15/2012
Went for drinks with friends around 7pm, sat outside, ordered bottle of wine and appetizers. By 7.30 they were making comments about us having to order dinner or leave the table. I appreciate they want the tables for food, but we never said would order a meal and it's not like we were not spending money. They effectively forced us out by clearing the table in front of our eyes when we still hadn't finished drinking, and then got upset when we didn't leave a tip. If they had had the vision to not chase $$$ over customer service they might have had a repeat customer. Sometimes I really hate how commercial NYC has become.

I absolutely love bar pitti!!! The food is to die for and there is such a pretty atmosphere! I don't understand how anyone could possibly not like this place. The service is great. Our waiter was very patient and sweet, playing with the children at the table next to ours. I don't really have an issue with the small space. I guess it's something that New Yorkers are used to, so if you are used to the roomy tables at the Olive Garden, then I wouldn't suggest it. Trust me, there's good reason this place is so popular.
ATROCIOUS service! ENTERTAINING read also! STAY AWAY!

I have never until today posted a review online of a restaurant, but, on this occasion I simply had to. The waiter was very rude to my date as she asked several questions about the specials. He stated, "are you going to have me go over every one"? When she did not want a cocktail, he smirked. When I received my change for the meal and still had a half of glass of wine left the waiter stated, "since you are done we have people waiting for your table". I should have asked for a manager, however, being on a date I let it go. I will NEVER RETURN to Bar Pitti. The food was very average at best also. Dennis
Favorite Italian Restaurant in NYC
By alexjaye on 4/11/2011
As you can see, most people have a love-hate relationship with Bar Pitti. Bar Pitti is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC because it is casual, thoroughly enjoyable, and delicious. First off, the food is very fresh and absolutely wonderful. The prices are affordable. The problem with Bar Pitti lies in the service - some people just don't get it. Look the waiter in the eye when you order and he is yours. It is all about being open-minded and if you go to Bar Pitti with this attitude, you will have an amazing time. It is a place where you can dress up or dress down, bumping elbows with artists and other creatives. Yes, the atmosphere can be quite hectic at times when it is packed with people waiting for a table, but there is an Italian charm about this place that cannot go unnoticed. If you are sensitive with service and want your food quietly delivered to you, do not go here--you will be turned off easily and may hate the place. If you are in the mood for a delicious Tuscan meal with an exciting atmosphere and are open for loud conversations and witty jokes with the waiter, Bar Pitti is your place. Order the Black Truffle Pasta and Veal Milanese and tell me this place is not amazing.
