Great Place to Settle In and Enjoy a Quiet Afternoon

Toto is a relaxing corner bar/inoteca/cafe. You can post up with a book and let the wine flow for as long as you like. Recently had the leg of lamb special, which was delicious. Also recommend the bread pudding. It's really well done and more chocolately than other puddings. The servers are quite nice as well. The waiter forgot to put in our dessert order and immediately apologized and footed the bill for it. They also don't rush your meal or force you out the door.

Best of Slope attractions

Bar Toto might be, in fact, the best thing about the Slope. Nestled on a residential (read: quiet) street with ample outdoor & indoor seating, this panini/Italian bistro/bar serves up rich and rewarding dishes that will surprise you and leave you satiated and happy. Best bolognese dish you'll EVER eat; best Penne w peas & prosciutto for that "god I'm hungry" moment (pile on some parmigiano and you are SET); my favorite: Eggs Toto for brunch. And to top it off: staff is unbeatable - anywhere.

Perfect Place for Brunch

I have been going to this place for brunch about once a month for the past 2 years. It is never crowded, family friendly, and a great neighborhood hangout. The wait staff is unobtrusive and friendly. They make great bloody marys and bellinis. The coffee is strong, but the food is the biggest draw: eggs florentine is served with grilled polenta and covered in a rich parmesean creame sauce. you can have either shoe string fries (my favorite) or green salad with it. Eggs Toto is poached eggs with was is essencially a tomato and onion focaccia. the paninis are crispy and gooey, but I did not feel that their pasta was their string point. For the most part the cooking is consistant, though the last time I was there they had over cooked the eggs. Whenever I have guests I take them here for the cool atmosphere (large mirrors against on wall reflecting the tall, high windows, dark wood and leather seating - a very French bistro feel). Great outdoor, if limited, seating. Obviously a local favorite.

'Ino without the crowds

They say "Be careful what you wish for" - well, I had been wishing and wishing for a delicious panini place, as tasty as 'ino but in my neck of the woods, something simple and low-key and mostly empty, with a lovely and melancholy waitress who knows when to disappear and when to reappear -- and Bar Toto appeared, exactly what I wished for. So, why do I never go there? Could the place be too empty, too spooky? I can't figure it out. * * * Important note: this place is near the *5th ave and 9th st* R stop, NOT 59th st N/R. Park Slope, not Bay Ridge.
