Don't waste your money and time. I went with 4 people and all four of us thought the food was simply bad. I had the lamb and could only eat 2 bites of it (the rest was fat). I had to send it back and get the chicken which was mediocre at best. I would definitely not recommend this rest to anybody!!

I was completely disappointed with our experience. After being told that we had to surrender our table at a certain time, i was served and under-cooked/seasoned roast chicken that I ordered per the ny times reccomendation. Rare chicken is not good. Had to scream in order to be heard over the noisy dining room. Go at your own risk.

My husband and I went one night because we thought a)it must be full every night for a reason and b)because we live practically across the street. Don't be fooled! The first time we went the food was simply not very good and certainly overpriced. We also ran into some friends there that had waited over 1/2 hour for their reservation and were then seated at an inside, uncomfortable table. OK, maybe an off night. Then my dad came to town and he and his girlfriend were very impressed with the open air feel and so we went for a drink. They insisted on trying dinner there so we sat down. Veal was tasteless and seemingly doused with chili powder, the risotto was bland, bland and more bland and the fish and quail were average at best. We sent the veal back and we should have sent the risotto back. I will never go back there and furthermore, every time I walk by I will continue to giggle at the New Yorkers who are eating there thinking they are so 'in' because someone told them it was hip to eat there. What a waste of money.

I'v been in barbuto in mid oct with my girlfriend. I'm italian, but there's nothing farest from italy than barbuto cuisine. The place is noisy and dark, I have dinner while the people standing at the bar were so close to me that may taste my food. Service is bad and food very simple and too ordinary to excuse the check!

Barbuto was once my favorite restaurant in NYC. Unfortunately, the past two times IÂ’ve been back, the food has been subpar, the staff has been snippy, and the overall quality of the experience just felt lacking. My waiter also tried the upsell - by warning my date and I that the dish I ordered (a basic pasta) would take much longer to cook so we should probably purchase an appetizer as well. My pasta was out within 10 minutes and, sadly, I overheard him use the same line on a different table with a totally different dish. I donÂ’t think Jonathan Waxman would be pleasedÂ…

A service, seating and eye-burning nightmare. I ran out to Barbuto after reading Adam Platt's rave review online. Our table was in the middle of the overcrowded main dining room, and we all spent most of our evening scooching ever closer to the table while waiters and runners bumped into and slid by us all evening. We waited 15 minutes for our drinks and 45 for our food, which was fine quality, but not anything special. The asaparagus appetizer and the duck were tasty. The polenta was blander than bland. The lamb and risotto were fine, but eh. The wood burning oven kept filling the room with smoke, which made everyone in our party's eyes burn. Our waiter was clueless and put the wrong amount on our credit cards (we split the check), and I felt like I'd been taken by the time we left. Maybe our experience was an anomoly, an off night for a new restaurant is not uncommon. And certainly Mr. Waxman's repuation and past successes are worth noting. But I don't want to risk another unpleasent evening—even if the chef has Alice Water's phone number.

Jonathan, what happened to you? The food here, to put it not-so-delicately, sucks. But we love Mary behind the bar, who makes a mean custom cocktail and entertains us with her sardonic wit. She is the only reason (that and the occasional sight of James Gandolfini walking by with his kid) we go back.

The restaurant is nice; but the food is very poor, probably also for the high expectations I had. I went there twice thinking may be it was just once that they got it wrong. But the second time was even worst than the first. Food is simply no good.

Want the thunder of the crowd at the Garden? Sit down for dinner at Barbuto when the garage doors are closed and the next table over is a four-top of Sopranos extras with lung power and six cell phones. Ready to order? See if you can find a waiter. That cocktail you wanted? They're out of it. (Out of a cocktail? Hello?) Want bread and butter? Go elsewhere. You like pepper? Good, because the risotto and the garganelli have been marinated with the pepper mill. On a diet? Good, because the portion is the size of a baby's fist. Thinking about dessert? Don't bother. At this point, your headache is so serious you'll need Extra-Strength Excedrin. Next time? There won't be.

Went to Barbuto for an early Sunday dinner. Must admit I was surprized upon entering at the stench from the bar. Not good. Table was fine, chairs ok but overall atmosphere musty. No table clothes. Not a crisp clean feeling. After ordering cocktails and while looking at menu I asked for an antipasti to be brought out. The waiter refused stating that the kitchen can only acceptable complete table orders given at one time...isn't that a statement lacking the "customer comes first" attitude. Be that as it may we continued. While eating our apps (we were a party of five) the bus service started to clear our dishes. While 3 of us had finished 2 of us weren't. The lack of common sense continued as he attempted to clear my dish while I was still chewing. Talk of terrible service this place is in a league of it's own! Food, apps and entre, were tasty and well prepared. Overall experience was negative and would not reccommend Barbuto. There are too many other restaurants in Manhattan that serve just as good, if not better food, at the same price level without the dirty facility and poor overall service. This place needs a good general manager who can deliver a few "swift kicks" to wake them ALL up.
