A ray of sunshine in this grime city!

Words cannot describe how damn good the food is here! I'm what you would call a "regular" here and surprisingly the food never gets old and is consistently remarkable! I cannot tell you my favorite dish because they are all equally delightful, however, I will say that the fries are out of this world! The staff is always super friendly and attentive to my every need! One taste and you will be hooked... I guarantee it!

The food and atmosphere of the restaurant were spectacular. There was a vast variety of food and everything was seasoned to perfection.
Wonderful all-round dining experience

fantastic meal... the food was out of this world. the octopus appetizer was delicous, followed by the branzini, it made a tasty, yet healthy meal. the service was attentive and mr.casella even came to our table, with herbs in pocket, to greet us. the wine list is one of the best i've seen. i would recommend this restaurant whole-heartedly to anyone who has an understanding of the complexity of flavor without being overwhelming.
Tuscany in New York
By nycfoodie on 2/4/2003
I am almost apprehensive to write how great this restaurant is for fear that lines will start forming around the block. Inventive Tuscan food, a rustic casual atmosphere, and great service by friendly and knowledgeable staff are the perfect ingredients for a wonderful dining experience.

I found the rustic decor very relaxing giving the restaurant an almost casual feel. The service and food were outstanding. I had the most delicious gnocci I had every tasted.

Beppe makes very hearty food - earthy and filling. The french fries are fabulous. The fireplace is very homy and the service is very attentive.

From the moment we walked in, it reminded me of Tuscany. The food was as good as my Grandmother's and I can't wait to bring my parents!! The wine was Fantastic as well.
Flashes of Potential, But Some Glitches
By colpo on 4/23/2003
An immediate turn-off was our server. She told us that the chef recommends that each table have three savory courses (apps, pasta and mains). We fell for it, but it wasn't a very Italian way to eat a meal and ended up feeling unbalanced. My tablemate ordered the 'Italian Fried Chicken', a marketing gimmick that features a large bowl of fried chicken pieces with some lemon wedges. I guess the lemon is the Italian part, but eating the dish from a bowl was unwieldy and made for a dumb main. The rest of the food I recall as good, but eminently forgettable.
