The evening was an awful experience from the time we put our names on the wait list until we left. The hostess informed us it would be a 20 min wait; however, after 20 mins, we inquired how much longer and she said that there were still 10 couples ahead of us. Needless to say, we ended up waiting 55 mins. I think they just give everyone a canned "20 min" answer to keep people from leaving. The evening didn't get any better after that. We had to suffer through the waiter yelling at us, then never coming back to our table until he gave us the bill. At that point, we couldn't get rid of the guy. He hovered over our table trying to intimidate us into giving him a good tip. We barely got out of our seats when he grabbed the money from the table. I really, really wished I had read the most recent reviews of this place before going. I would have given them a -10 for service had it been an option. The best moment of the night was when we left. It felt so liberating.
RUDE SERVICE... STAY AWAY!
By madamerousseau on 6/5/2010
My husband and I were used to go to Beyoglu a lot but lately the service is the RUDEST i ever had in NYC. The manager was very rude and almost coerced us to leave more tip for a sleazy service. Simply awful!
Go-to date night, delicious & reasonable!

I'm surprised at all of the awful reviews for Beyoglu below! I mean, it's not perfect, but my husband and I LOVE this place. We've taken friends, returned with parents, and everybody loves it every time. We get the vegetarian platter to split for weeknight takeout and when we go with friends we usually split that, the Beyoglu salad, whatever special appetizer and special meat dish. Love the calamari too. There is always plenty of food and is SO GOOD! And doesn't break the bank. The waiters are good-humored and funny. Sometimes rushed, but it's always packed so I can't blame them. Can't recommend this place more for the price and the food.
sleaziest place on UES...

This place has gone to hell. Used to be good a few years ag0. Now, PURE SLEAZINESS best describes the creepy manager "Sal." I recvd. the wrong meal and I sent it back, UNEATEN, and was charged for it. WHen I questioned the waiter, Sal appeared and said "you don't make no trouble here." Trouble? I hadn't even eaten! It was a very embarrassing SCENE that he created and I honestly felt like I was about to beaten up. I PAID just so I could get away, hopefully unharmed. I have since called to speak with the owner - another SLEAZYcharacter. He allegedly lives in Miami. No surprise that he does not return calls. STAY AWAY.
Doing everything they can to drive away business
By UpperEastNYC on 9/5/2009
I have lived around the corner from this restaurant for the last five years and this could be a good neighborhood spot. Unfortunately they consistently do everything they possibly can to drive away business with their terrible service and policies. Their best kebab dishes are not available for lunch - instead they have a special which is twice the price of anything on the menu. The waiters have bad attitudes. Most recently, they have now started chasing away people with babies. I can understand at dinner not wanting to crowd the restaurant, but they would not seat us for lunch with our sleeping six month old even though there were many open tables outside and the inside was completely open. I guess they are going for a certain aesthetic - empty.
Sleazy and unethical managers
By foodcritic7 on 8/13/2009
Waited for 15 minutes while a sleazy looking person (manager, most likely) had folks who came in later to seat first. Highly unethical to do that. Anyhow once seated the food was terrible. Not worth the wait. Never going back. Certainly do not go if you are treating someone else for a special occasion - the staff was sleazy and the food was mixed. The vegetarian dishes significantly better than the meats.

Who knew my favorite neighborhood restaurant would be turkish. As a self proclaimed foodie, this restaurant has become my favorite neighborhood spot. The service is quick, the food great, and considerably inexpensive. When the weather is nice, I love sitting outside. I have taken many out-of-towners here and when they return, they always request a stop in to Beyoglu.
Not what it used to be

Today its just the worst service and overpriced food. It's highly recommended to keep away from this place.
Mediocre, expensive, bad service.

Waste of time and money.
Lost its magic
By tzruger on 7/27/2009
Been to Beyoglu last weekend and I must say it was probably the last time. They were out of most of their main courses and so had forced to you have what was left. The service was just awful, the grilled meat was way overcooked and the food was overall very mediocre. I used to like this place, but I guess it lost its mojoÂ…
