Do not go. If you are curious, ask to go to the bathroom. That is if you want to see what this place is about. I'm not saying its just crap, but please go take a look. The bathroom is a must see. Employees (told me) are abused by the owner. They charged me $7.60 for a plain baked potato, with butter and sour cream on the side. The guy told me this was 2 toppings. 2 tabs of butter, and a tiny container of sour cream. To top it off the potato was undercooked. How difficult is it to bake a potato? This in it self is enough to never go back. Nick had a restaurant on the corner Nikos that failed. I don't know if the employees are trying to sabotage it for Nick, or the waiter was just doing me a favor, by telling me "don't come back" but all I can say is good by to nicks. Go and eat there at your own risk. If you are into being abused, it might be a great place for you.

Raw pizza dough

Disgusting. Delivery arrived an hour late with raw dough in the pizza. Called to let them know and was hung up on. They shouldn't be allowed to exist with such terrible service and food.

Not so reliable anymore...

Big Nick's must have changed management because they are just not as quick to turnaround delivery orders as they used to be ... Right now I'm still waiting for a bacon/egg/cheese sandwich which I ordered almost an hour ago. Really? That's just unbelieveable... And it's not the first time. Over the past few months, Big Nick's has been slooow on getting ordersout, having to wait more than 45-minutes most of the time. I've lived on the UWS for over 7 years and have ordered from them routinely -- I know how good the service used to be and its so disappointing that's its so terrible now.

Nick's is a NY institution...just don't take it to seriously!

As a restaurant consultant, you would think Nick's would have me running in disgust for our industry. However, in the early 90's when I was a student and lived on the Upper West Side Nick's was our 24 hour haven after a heavy night of partying or for all night study sessions Nick's was where you would find us. People talk about the pizza but for my crew it was Nick's larger than life burgers...and for me the foot long hot dog smothered in cheese and onions! I went back recently and the original Nick's dog is no longer a foot long but they have added a Kobe beef foot long to take its place. The service was always hit or miss but the characters with beehive hair and chain-smoking cigs that waited on you was worth the imperfection. With Elaine's gone (also never know for flawless service or its food for that matter) we need to support these institutions of a by gone era. They reflect a saltier time in New York's history that will soon vanish forever. Yes, even a restaurant consultant can appreciate a concept that has survived unchanged from the 1960's and don't take themselves seriously. If they don't, maybe we should just leave our judgment at the door too.

This place had the feel of and old road stop out of and old movie My burger and fries was great one of the best burgers i ever had any one who complains about this place is already in the wrong place great food great atmosphere thanks will be back!

four friends of mine at there a few days ago. all had burger and fries, three are still very ill from being poisoned from that meal, and one is recovering THE FOOD IS TAINTED. Management doesn't care.

Epitome of a late night Upper West Side dive

If you can't appreciate this wonderful little establishment, I suggest you stick to the East Side. Consistently phenomenal burgers, affordable prices, open 24/7, the perfect place to stumble in at 4am for a burger after a long night.

Lived on the UWS my entire life and have frequented Big Nicks, but my most recent experience there has turned me to never support or eat at any of Nick's eateries EVER again. Save yourself from Big Nicks, trust me on this one! Unfortunately it took me 27 years to learn about this horrible business. . . if you are looking for late night eats, there is always Chirping Chicken, Europan and other clean, respectable establishment who treat customers appropriately.

This place was very busy on a Wednesday evening so they must be doing something right. The food is typical diner fare, but it's not bad. It's dependable. Reliable. Diner food is never terrible because expectations going into one are never really high. Our server seemed bored but not rude. The only thing that really angered me is that my party of four was asked to leave because other people were waiting. We were approaching the two hour mark after having ordered food, dessert , and coffee for four and we were having a nice time eating and chatting. So, to sum up, food on the better side of average, and don´t forget, the sooner you are done eating here, the happier they will be ...

It's a funky place and I'd rather get it delivered than eat in the restaurant...BUT, it is the biggest menu and the food is consistantly excellent. It's people's food. There's nothing like a big Nick bacon cheeseburger and big juicy onion rings!
