The restaurant simply changed names to "Le Paris". The owner is the same one as for Bistro du Nord, the interior was renovated, and the menu improved. The food is delicious, the service is good, and the atmosphere extremely enjoyable!

In thirty years of dining out in NYC (in every kind of restaurant, from the Big Wong to Jean-Georges), I have never had a worse experience. The particulars were somewhat different from the "Avoid at All Costs" reviewer, but the upshot was the same. This is hands-down the worst restaurant I have ever eaten in. Following a 45-minute wait, our meal finally arrived, and it was, quite simply, inedible: e.g., it was impossible to taste the cod for the lake of viscous, horrible-tasting sauce it was drowning in; the leathery smoked salmon, accompanied by two slices of toasted Wonderbread, was of the cheapest, saltiest packaged supermarket variety. When a wait person asked us how everything was and we told her the truth, politely, she responded by arguing with us, claiming that "our customers" loved the food! And she persisted! Never in my life have I had to ask a wait person to please go away. To add insult to injury, the prices were astronomical. I was seduced by your review and photo and paid heavily for it. A delightful evening that began at the opening of the wonderful "Dutch Seen" exhibit was utterly spoiled.

I find the first two reviews VERY hard to believe. Perhaps they were written by a disgruntled competitor? I have eaten at Bistro du Nord monthly for almost a year, and it is always a great pleasure, something I look forward to. I have started taking groups of 10 or more people there, and they manage it all so graciously. Everyone I take wants to come back, which is one of the reasons our group has grown. The service is attentive, warm, and professional. The food is excellent--I'm always happily surprised. And the atmosphere is comfortable and neighborhood-like, casually elegant. This is one of my favorite restaurants--another, similar, is La Luncheonette in Chelsea. You could come here on any occasion, but because the tables are close, I wouldn't recommend it for any but the most well-behaved children.

This restaurant was a disaster from the minute we walked in and found the hostess on her cellphone carrying a really loud conversation while we waited for her to finished. We we finally got to our table the other waiter had his kid playing video game on a table next to us, loud! The place has this eastern european/melancholic feeling far from the northern french style as the name suggests. Our waiter was rude and talked to my fiancee as if she was a 6 year old about to get grounded for asking for a better table. The food was horrible. I ordered Pasta with mozzarella (how can you screw that up?) and it was uneatable. My fiances' salad was served with an old/canned/microwaved piece of gray tuna. And to top it off we found a bug in her food, when we told the waiter he just said, "Oh, ok." and removed the plates from our table without apologizing or acknowledging what just happened. And yes, he charged us in full. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! AVOID AT ALL COST!

Arriving at this little bistro on a rainy afternoon having come out of the Guggenheim Museum, I had every intention of enjoying a savory soup, a hearty salad and a nice main course of meat. Having set my heart on a pleasant food experience, needless to say the utter disrespect and disregard of the arrogant service staff, and the sloppiness of the food without attention to detail were all a rude awakening. I would not recommend this restaurant. I would actually avoid it unless one has a taste for totally unpleasant dining experience. Attention to those with any special food allergies or intolerances: the staff will not care, will not pay attention and will actually get you to the verge of an emergency room visit if you are not aware yourselves.
