Two friends and I ate dinner here the night of January 13,2006. We found the restaurant to be average. What was so unusual about the evening was the service. We have never experienced such an odd wait staff. There were so many waiters coming to the table, some speaking to us and some not, and some peeking over and around the booth at us that we felt uncomfortable. We wondered who they thought we were. The odd occurrences are really too numerous to mention here. It was a weird evening at a weird restaurant. We will not return.

This was an armature attempt a french cuisine by an industry veteran. Nice wine and desert though overall disappointing.

Due to a misunderstanding, my party left only a 10% gratuity in error. Granted this wasn't good, but our waiter literally became hysterical, chasing us out of the restaurant onto the sidewalk yelling and sobbing and making a giant scene. We quickly rectified the situation, but still he wouldn't accept an explanation and the manager was no help. Really horrifying (and ridiculous).

I was having a hankering for my Paris days, so I wanted to try David Pasternack's new restaurant (I loved Esca when I went). The arrangement of the room is rather odd, since the main dining area is around the corner and up some stairs. We were crammed into a very small table, which I did not appreciate, but the service was prompt and efficient. The sommelier was helpful (referred to by my waiter as the "wine guy"), and the wine list had some great choices that were also reasonably priced. I started with the classic French onion soup--it was good despite the burnt cheese. I (and the rest of the table) had steak frites for the main course. The steak was delicious and well-seasoned, and the fries were nice and crunchy. I finished with the pot de creme, which was smooth and had a hint of hazelnut. If you want a bistro fix, then this is your place. If you want some imagination at work, then this isn't the place.
