Food is unbelievably below standard....over cooked fish, very oversalted food overall, ... like someone with zero food training prepared dishes...sliced tomatoes as a starter? poorly sliced at that, to the point we laughed.
Wait staff were ill informed, had to be called for to make orders, and slow when they could be found...

smoke and mirrors

We thought we would be stepping into the Belle Epoque, a gilded hour of ambiance and over-the-top food, but where we thought we would find ostrich plumes, we found carefully arranged dead flowers. While it was cheerfully promoted as Victorian chic, what we experienced instead was the happy Gothic underbelly of New York hipsters. In the same way we walked into a world we weren't expecting, turns out the food and drinks came out in unexpected ways as well. A "Fordham" cocktail of gin, St. Germain, lime juice and a cucumber, which we expected to be sharp, turned out to be more like Mike's Hard Lemonade. The food was equally disenchanting; the menu's Ahi Tuna Salad, which seemed to be nicoise, came out in deconstructed mounds of flavorless sashimi, gummy green beans, and an assortment of what appeared to be canned condiments: olive tapenade, stewed tomatoes, chopped egg salad, fried onions, and yukon golds a la mayonaise. Don't be lured in by the smoke and mirrors.

Bad service + less than average food = ambience ruined

From A-Z, the WORST NYC dining experience I"ve ever had.
A) The hostess was horribly rude. Put me on hold twice for ten minutes, when all I wanted was to say I was late.
B) Food was sub-par, especially for the price and considering I ordered from a prefixe menu. The banana and parsnip soup looked and tasted like baby food. The tuna tartare was flavor-less, and the ribeye was rubbery, dry, and overdone.
C) Service was appalling. Servers circled around with no one person dedicated to my table. It took 3 requests to finally get the pre-ordered dessert after a ridiculously long 3 hour meal.
D) The ambience was the real draw, but there was no “speakeasy” mystery. They have a sign! Anything that was left was ruined by an off-key cocktail singer, who sang, amongst horrible microphone feedback and deafeningly loud speakers.
E) I will never return again and was so upset from my experience that I have even considered refuting the credit card charges.

Creative, fabulous blend of flavors with inspired presentation. Patrick Connelly is now in full control of the kitchen, and it shows. We tried multiple first courses and entrees. Flavors just kept coming, marrying beautifully with the wines. Cuisine is more refined than the decor. A little noisy on Saturday, but to be expected. Went to several Michelin starred restaurants on this visit. Bobo is in this class. Service and pace of the meal were perfect. Strongly recommended. If you went to Bobo when Patrick first got there last Fall, well ... you need to go again!

It's been awhile since I've visited, but the food is phenomenal. My fav website has a video with Chef Patrick Connolly preparing Chicken and Artichokes that was helpful to view before going.

I just went for my birthday and had a great time. I think there is a quirkiness about the place, including no sign, that kind of makes it fun. Menu has most of the standard items but the recipes and flavor combinations are not what you typcially find. Everything was delicious. My only complaint was it is a little crowded, especially with the candles. Had the seared fois gras as an app, and while I know it isn't always pc to eat it, it was perfect! Had the muscovy duck for dinner and that too was cooked to perfection. Interesting assortment wines but mostly they were pricey. Dessert - had the blackberry cobbler which was wonderful. The feel is eatting in someone's home. Maybe on a crowded holiday

Absolutely THE WORST restaurant I've been to, go to Balthazar instead. Too cramped, NOT "fusing the comforts of home into an urban dining setting, classically hip restaurant," as we heard this repeatedly from the Bobo "team." We get it, we live in nyc (urban enough?), and Bobo doesn't cut it or get it. The entree I ordered, DRY wild stripe bass and chorizo w/ basil sauce (whopping $27). The bass wasn't scored so it didn't curl and it didn't soak up any flavor. This dish, an alchemy of flavors gone completely wrong. My client had the slow roasted rib eye, it was chewy and lacked exciting flavors (his expression said it all). The waiter disappeared but I didn't want to draw further attention to the embarrassing fact that I brought my client here to impress him. The service made me feel uncomfortable - the entire staff swarmed around corporate clients and their "in-crowd," forgetting the rest of us. I don't know who designed the beverage list but I don't want to know. I wouldn't recommend this place to ANYONE.

Absolutely Fantastik! Great food, great service, great atmosphere, great vibe! Try the crabcake appetizer...beyond delicious and the chops and fish entree...mmmmm. Great wine selection as well. A must do while in NYC....make reservations! Ask for table upstairs.
