There was one chicken curry, plain rice with no cummin seed or peas ( and was termed as PULAOV ),One vegetable and dal mix..dont know what the chef was trying to make..one Spinach vegetable, nothing in cottage cheese( Paneer ), one dessert (Kheer) and naan ( bread). Would never recommend this to anyone.BIG NO!!! AC was not working and he said its on Max. Only 3 seating arrangement and then there was a big bar table and stools. NOT WORTH AT ALL....I have been to MINAR PALACE..its 100% better than this BOMBAY TALKIE

My friend who lives in the city had ordered a mango lassi that she didn't really enjoy. The waitress (Monica) comes over and has an attitude about taking the drink back and bringing her another. Her response was "in nyc, this is how lassi is made" -uhm ok. The tab comes and we notice it is higher than we were expecting for the 3 of us. Notice that the tab includes a 20% + gratuity on it. We question Monica. She has an attitude about it and says that they have a minimum of $25/person and since we didn't meet that minimum - she added the extra gratuity. We ask to see the menu where this is listed..and it does say this indeed..for PARTIES OF 5 OR MORE! So, we say..this doesnt' make sense as we are a party of 3. She goes on to say that this is the tab and we have to pay it very sternly. And begins to grab our credit cards on the table!! My friend grabs them and says she needs to talk to the manager..and Monica responds, I am the manager! She sends over the "manager" who we know was another wait staff member. He begins to argue w/ us. My friend said she had no problem paying for one lassi but take off extra gratituty. He says he wil charge us for 2 lassis..mind you, my friend didn't even drink a full one. He says "In NYC, when you dont like something you just take it and deal with it." uhm ok again. He also went on to call my friend a "lossser" as he was walking by our table...I was embarrassed for this restaurant.

Food is absolutely incredible. Good service. Get the Makmala Kebab...it is to die for! Only complaint is that the food portions could be slightly larger, especially considering how much you're paying. Nonetheless, I would go back in a heart beat.

I was recently at Bombay Talkie to celebrate a friends birthday and i just loved the service there. The food tastes great and the people are nice. I recomended this place to all my friends in NY and they also loved it. They said everything was great and one of my friends was even delighted with the delivery service. He said the delivery boy was fast, polite, and respectful. I am in love with Bombay Talkie and there is no doubt that when i move there i will be your customer.

En route to Co. just past the estates along Ninth, we couldn't resist the charming two-storey house with warm candlelight flickering through the windows. Expecting yet another haute barnyard eatery, we were pleasantly intrigued by the high-tech Bollywood film displays, just like the cheap, cheerful Sitaaray in London's Covent Garden. The "Beggar's Purse" (Papdi Chat) starter was nearly faultless - small, crispy parcels of (albeit refrigerator-cold) smooth chickpea and potato puree with a mouthwatering tamarind yoghurt topping - while the dosa, though not a patch on the wafer-thin ones you get in Kerala, came with a delicious trio of sambar, green and red coconut chutneys. But it was all downhill from there: $22 for a dry tandoori Mahi Mahi, a third of which was unappetizing bloodline, served with an enormous pile of pilau, and a stingy $6 side of beetroot slices swimming in grease. $65 the poorer (two starters, a main, a side and a couple beers), on the way out we spied a pile of the yet-unseen prix fixe menus, a relative steal at $25/3 courses and a glass of wine.
Great Indian place in Chelsea

If you get over how pricey it is, it's a gem. I've been trying to find an Indian place on the West Side, and so far Talkie is my best bet. Good dishes I've tried are the delicious Papdi chat appetizers that have a beautiful delicate texture; the rich and fragrant Lamb Biryani and the Homestyle Chicken. The Coconut Tapioca is a gorgeous dessert to share. Everything is beautifully presented. I've always had good attentive service. The decor at first seemed pretentious, but it's relaxing even on a busy night. Fun date place.
Fantastic food drink and decor but small portions and expensive

The subject line kind of sums it up. Bombay Talkie has been a favourite of mine for a while. The food is consistently good and the cocktails menu always gives you something new and interesting to try. The decor and atmosphere in the place also make you feel relieved to have finally found an Indian restaurant that serves you authentic Indian food without having to be served by waiters with bow ties. All good things aside, my last trip there brought home to me how crazily expensive the food is and how ridiculously small the portions are. Our appetizers were far to small to bother sharing and one of our entrees, the shrimp tandoori (delicious btw) was $20 but we were presented with three shrimps on a plate with rice. This was disappointing and for $20 I thought they could have managed four shrimps - it would have also made it a lot easier to share. Don't get me wrong, I love this place.. I just wish the management would reconsider their portion sizes. I don't want to stop going there, but I can't justify the big bills when I come away still hungry.
Better than Bombay

Bombay Talkie is good. The vegetable dishes taste like eating in the kitchens of my friends' parents' homes. The snack food tastes as good as that found on the beaches of Bombay, with ample portions and clear, crisp flavors. My only reservation is that the dosa was slightly overcooked, but this was easily overlooked by the wonderful lentil sambar and white/red coconut chutneys on the side. I am not Indian, but have travelled to India, and usually find Indian food in restaurants to be too heavy and uninventive (no more Tikka Masala please!). Bombay Talkie is the best Indian restaurant I've been to since eating in India.
One of the best Indian in NYC

I have been to many good Indian restaurants in NYC and London and Bombay Talkie stands up to the best. Noisy, crowded, busy and at peak times you will have to wait even with a reservation. It's worth it. Had chicken tikka masala, lamb meatballs, dal makhni, smoked eggplant, spicy garbanzo beans and all were wonderful. Best chutney/sauce selection I have seen and a must for Indian food lovers. I actually like the small portions, it allows you to try more dishes. Prices were very reasonable. Great cocktails at the bar. We will be going back!!

Bombay Talkie has a very stylish and sophsiticated look to it. There are two floors of dining areas, a full bar, and an eating bar area. The food portions do not match the price, but they are presented very nicely.
