I just signed up for an account on NYMag just to criticize this craptastic establishment. I hope it goes out of business sooner rather than later.

Without exception, the best Fish 'n' Chips in Manhattan

This is unquestionably the best Fish and Chips place in Manhattan. I've tried them all -- including A Salt and Battery -- and this one tops it. A great Aussie wine and beer list is also a huge plus. This is my #1 reasonably-priced first-date place in New York and it has never disappointed. I live way the heck uptown and still make it down here once a month (it takes nearly an hour). Free drinks (usually a beer, sometimes more) are in store if you're friendly with the waitstaff and bartender.

Bondi Road to Pepto Lane

i typically don't complain online.. but after my second poor experience at Bondi Road i figured it was my LES duty to forewarn others. First experience - brunch. cheap and 'unlimited drinks'. sounds great. BUT my eggs 'benedict' (the ham replaced with bacon) i almost sent back. the eggs were over cooked, and the bacon too crispy (it crumbled with every slice). i like crispy bacon - just a bad choice for an benedict type dish. drinks made up for it. but not ‘unlimited’ (as advertised). the 3rd was hard to get. the 4th had to beg. i will note, they make a good bloody mary. The second time i went to bondi road (figured everyone's worth a second chance. poor choice) I got the steak sandwich. it doesnt come on a roll, or a bun, but rather two slices of thin wheat bread. every bite results in the remaining sandwich dumping onto the plate. the real kicker though - the meat tasted bad. i had 3 bites.. and am now writing this review from bed the following morning with pepto by my side. perhaps bondi road has some good dishes, and perhaps i had 2 unfortunate visits.. just beware.

The food was pretty poor quality - fish was definitely NOT fresh and the crab ragout is pretty much canned crab and canned corn. Not really what I expect from this type of establishment. Service was friendly and fine. It's a very average place overall.

I would write a review about how unquestionably amazing the drunken brunches can get, but then a bunch of as$h0les will probably show up and ruin it. So, Staaaaaaaaay in for brunch. Staaaaaaaaaaay in. -=VillainJack=- dot com

The restaurant was really dark and I'm not sure if it's because they were doing something special for Australia Day or it's like this all the time. Anyway, service was crap. We could not even get a drink as the staff were busy setting up the place for Australia Day. We were told to get off the chairs we were sitting on because there will be no space for chairs on this special night. We did not even bother staying and I will not recommend anyone to this place. I am sure there're plenty of nicer Australian restaurants in New York, with a better Aussie attitude. Try harder guys, you suck!

I found myself sipping on an Australian Lager while enjoying the breeze amidst an accented backgound chatter. If it wasn't for the view of Rivington street I could easily have imagined myself at a fish and chips restaurant on the coast outside of Sydney. That's not to say the decor is anything special it just has a distinct and authentic feel to it.
The food was excellent and the service was very attentive. I had the Barramundi with chips (fries) and it was well prepared and flavorful. The waitress was happy to help with any questions about the food or beer and even offered us a shot with tequila and fresh grapefruit on the house. If you don't mind spicy, then I'd also recommend trying the Bloody Mary Oyster shot. Actually, after describing all the drinks you might think everything was so enjoyable because we were drunk, but I'd argue it supplemented the genuine Australian experience.
