After reading such wonderful things about this restaurant I was very much looking forward to my dining experience. We went around 9:30 on a Friday night and were pleasantly surprised to get seated right away. In fact, the place was quite empty for a Friday. The staff was pleasant and we had a nice table outside. Then the food came along with the big wave of disappointment. The bowl of dumpling appetizer was limp and flavorless and tasted like they had been frozen for ages. Fish and Chips were very greasy and not worth the $23. I had the salmon which was overcooked, very salty and nothing special. Then came the dessert, the red velvet cake. Seriously, how can you screw that up? Well, it was frozen and soggy. I really wanted to love this place since it is on my street but sadly, we will not be going back.

I've been here several times and we are always greeted with a smile. Its the type of place where you need to be prepared to have a relaxed meal, the service is not poor, but you need to not be in a rush. They are always accomadating and the Short Ribs followed by the donuts for desert is an incrediable combo. I even came through at midnight one night and was able to sit outside for a cocktail with my boyfriend and did not have to worry about ordering a full meal. There is also a backroom with a pool table which not a lot of people know about!! Great place to watch games!

Borough's 2 for 1 happy hour (weekdays 5pm-7pm) is the best. Enjoying one of their fabulous cocktails at the dimly lit bar is the perfect stop between a long day at work and the commute home. The bar tenders are friendly, attentive, fast to produce free beer samples from the frozen taps and refresh the bowls of delicious complementary popcorn. I haven't eaten here yet but I have heard great things about the food too. Highly recommended!

I visited Borough Food & Drink about a week after a terrific experience at 5 Ninth. Suffice it to say that my expectations were high, especially given the press this place received at opening (I couldn't open an email that week without reading a goo-goo ga-ga review). I gave it several months for the hype to die down before venturing in. I can't say that I loved it, but I can't really put my finger on why I didn't like it either. The menu was straightforward. My jerk chicken twas flavorful, our sides were playful (potato chips, home-made pickles, arugula+fried feta) but not exactly abundant. Not that I expect a Chili's-sized appetizer, but portions were barely shareable. Our waiter was overly attentive, but then again, there were only 4 occupied tables. I loved the cream cheese icing on the red velvet cake, so it puzzles me why all of the individual "good" components of the meal didn't add up to a good overall experience. It just felt soul-less. Like the Rosa Mexicano in the Flatiron district. Maybe it is the neighborhood that brings the whole vibe down.

We went here on a hot August evening and the a/c was broken. The sweaty waiter who served us kept wiping his head with his arm. The food was good, but I do not recommend combining most of the items on the menu and having one big meal. Some things like herring and sliders are just not meant to go together. We were there for a birthday party and we brought a cake...the waiter served it (ice cream cake) and touched each piece, leaving a thumb print. He then licked his finger after each slice was served. You be the judge; we were grossed out.

I was excited to try this place. Let's just say we laughed rather than cried over what New Yorkers sometimes have to put up with to get a meal. My partner is vegetarian, and the cheerful reservationist said there were many veggie options. There was just one on the whole menu! The music was better suited to a nightclub and obnoxiously loud. We waited forever for our food, twice, and the waitress said "she'd check" then disappeared. Decor is fun and cool. Food was OK to good. Not worth the pain of the exerience!!! Who runs this place?

Borough Food & Drink is a great addition to the Flatiron district restaurant scene. The menu is filled with New York inspired dishes. Hence the name Borough, the menu creates a new twist to some favorite local dishes all over the city. Our meals were pretty tasty. We sampled the dumplings, jerk chicken, baked macaroni and cheese, and rigatoni. The baked macaroni was slightly bland, but otherwise all other dishes were excellent. The menu boasts a great selection of different wines and custom cocktails; however they are expensive, relative to the food prices. The service was excellent. We went to the restaurant opening weekend, and were impressed with the knowledge of the menu. Hardwood floors and deep rich wood accents (built-in bookshelves and furniture) create a comfortable, woodsy atmosphere. Pool tables are located in the back room for some extra entertainment. The restaurant/bar has a little bit for everyone, and I will definitely go back.
