Went on a Saturday night at about 10:30 pm. Chose to sit outside for dinner b/c of the noise level inside. Waitress was in a hurry to take our order. We told her we wanted time to look at the menu and ordered pre-dinner drinks. She came back 3 times to ask if we wanted to order but never brought the drinks. When reminded, she said she forgot. So we ordered a bottle of wine to drink instead. That was brought rather quickly, and again she wanted to take our order. We just wanted to relax with a drink before dinner! But we gave her our order anyway. We never saw her after our meal arrived. Which was too bad, b/c the choucroute garnie didn't have the potatoes included, although they were listed on the menu. Also, inside diners came out and smoked right next to us on the sidewalk. Not nice.

Half off wine, and less than half the flavor.

Went there on Monday night for their great 50% off wine list. We had some spectacular wines that we never would've ordered( St. Estephe 04), but the food was pretty bad. Between the four of us, we had the escargot, steak frites, mussels, and rotiserie chicken frites, and all were poorly cooked. Chicken and steak were severely overdone, and the escargots lacked any measure of complexity. (even the homeless guy I gave my leftover chicken too complained about how tough it was ;) . Additionally, our waiter was slow, and they were out of some of the wines that we ordered.
If it wasn't for the 50% off wine, we'd be very disappointed. Skip Les Halles, unless you're going just for drinks.

Went last week - attentive and knowledgable waitstaff, terrific lamb chops/frites and duck confit. Best creme brulee I've had in a while. Seating just a bit cramped but noise level not off the charts. Oh, and GREAT fries...

We had an excellent meal here. The waitstaff had great suggestions, and we tried a variety of things from the escargot to the steak frites, and loved all of it. The prices were reasonable and the atmosphere casual. We will return many times over.

I went to Les Halles a few years ago and was also unimpressed by the service. I went back tonight, and things had changed. My waiter was well-informed on the specials, the wine list and the menu. He didn't pressure my date or I to order alcohol to increase the check. I had the steak frites ($19.50) and escargot which were both delicious. I gave the restaurant a "7" for value because my date's scotch was $16 (Oban, a single). The restaurant had a good busy vibe but was not too loud. I will now be going back more often.

Such a shame when a restaurant serving food of good quality is let down by the carefree attitude of the waiting staff. If I hadn't been paying I would have laughed out loud at the incompetence. After being served our steaks and enquiring after the bottle of wine I had ordered in the not too distant past, I had to leave my seat to try and wake the staff out of their inaction. On eventual arrival it was offered to the diners next to us whose bottle was also MIA. No apology offered. Just a "merci beaucoup" for accepting it. Fellow diners had their barely finished starters briskly whisked away to make room for the impatient entrees.
Almost as funny as 'No Reservations". Bravo !

I have never been rushed through a meal the way I was at les Halles. The waiter hovered while we perused the menus, entrees were brought before we were finished with our appetizers and a meal with drinks, appetizers, entrees, wine and dessert was finished in just more than an hour. Not acceptable when spending $200 per couple. Complaining to the management got us nowhere...

We've given Les Halles a few chances, mostly because it looks so convincingly Parisian, has the butcher area as you enter with fresh looking meat, but the food is never up to the level of other bistros we enjoy more.
The steak-frites is always somethign to judge by and if you can leave over the steak and some fries, it's not the place you want to call your own.
There's a frantic quality. Tables are set too close to one another. While it has the look, it doesn't have the kitchen to match.
I'm happier with steak/frites at Balthazar, Pastis or Le Jardin.

Parisian spirit in ambience but not in attitude. You always know what you get - great bistro food. Steak frites, reasonably priced red wines, here's the beef. Steak tartare or hanger steak, think of Paris and you can't go wrong.

Probably the best example of a French Bistro in the City. For the
money it's one of the best steaks you can get. The combination of the food, the service and atmosphere make this place a my choice for business, friends or a date.
