Brawta delivers delish and authentic Jamaican staples on island time (do not go if you are in a rush!). Had an authentically enjoyable meal last night - homemade lemonade and sorrel, cod fish cakes, the juiciest jerk chicken I have had in ages and oxtail, rice & peas and sweet plantains. The service and the stevie wonder soundtrack makes for a familiar vibe. Highly recommend for a relaxed & satisfying meal - Brawta will not disappoint!

I was a former fan of this place despite the poor service I received each and every time I ordered food for takeout and delivery or dined in. I just loved the food. I will never eat here again after ordering the ackee and codfish and noticing the fish tasted REALLY bad. It was absolutely spoiled and I quit eating but the damage was already done. I ended up in the ER with food poisoning.

I have to disagree with the first reviewer below. My non-West Indian friend highly recommended Brawta to me--one who grew up on the end of a Jamaican spoon--for its authentic food and home-like atmosphere, and it did not disappoint. Brawta passed the 'rice and peas' test and I've been back several times, even going with family after I was sworn in to the NYS bar. I don't know whom the prior review encountered on that one visit, but I've been many times and the food is always very good, and the service, slightly slow, but always pleasant.

I only joined this site because of how angry I was after going to Brawta. My dd was so excited to try new foods, as I had talked it up so much. Imagine my dismay when we were greeted with scowls. One of the staff (the owner?!) actually turned her back on me when I was saying hello. I struggled through this awful meal because of my child, but it was hard to choke down food that's served with such bitterness.
