Good Food, Horrible Service

I made reservations for 3 at Bricklane for a Saturday evening. We were seated promptly and our waiter was quick to come over. Aside from taking our order, this was the last time we saw him during our visit. I ordered the Lamb Madras as my entree and ordered stuffed naan with friends (which I thought was going to come out before dinner. We waited about 40 minutes for our meal and he bread came with our dinners. Our dinners did not even come at the same time and were missing components (Rice!). You would expect that a curry house would make sure water was filled during the meal, but we could not find our waiter or anyone else to refill for about 20 minutes. We shared the rice pudding for dessert, which was very good, but at the end of the meal, right as our waiter was taking the check, he told us he had another party waiting for the table and asked us to leave. I have never had such blatantly rude service. Food is good, but not worth the horrible service.

Visited on 3/14/09 with quite high expectations(despite some very "mixed" reviews). Initial impression was good, though steadily dropped as the night progressed. Seating was cramped. Service was OK. Kingfisher Beer on draft was good. Had Vegetable Pakora to start. Mistake #1. Mystery vegetable (or fruit?) was soggy and inedible. My wife had Chicken Jalfresi (OK, but too "oniony"), I had Chicken Vindaloo (Hot, but tasteless). No sooner was that finished than some bloke pops the check on the table and says "Thank you and Good Night". And what a check it was!. Highly unlikely we'll ever go back. Surprisingly busy restaurant for one this unremarkable.

Great place, if a little pricey...

I think one of the posters on here is right. Brick Lane does a very good, English aurientated curry, but it does it very well. Some of the tastiest Bhajis I've ever had and the Balti stands up well too. Great decor and service though yes it is a little on the steep side. Not a lot to complain about though...

My friend and I just ordered from this and spent 50+ dollars on take out. That is insane!! 3 dollar for a CAN OF SODA?? And I thought 1.50 from Chinese Take Out places was ridiculous! 3 DOLLARS???!! Then my friend ordered a cranberry juice, which was basically from a bar tap and they charged 4 dollars for that. We are STILL trying to figure out what the other prices were because what is on the menu and what we paid does NOT add up. Additionally, when I asked for the total cost of my food on phone, I was told "I am away from the register but it should be well under 50 dollars." What the hell is that? Sounds like a rip off to me! And what burns the most, the delivery took an hour instead of 30 minutes as promised AND my bread was COLD. Honestly, I would pass. I could have amazing Thai for HALF the price in HALF the time.

Bricklane makes one realize how good Indian food can be. Flavorful curries, well-baked Naan, creative dishes makes this a pleasing change from the ghee-soaked Indian food usually found in New York,

Man vs Food; Me vs chicken tikka masala

The place I’d always referred to as “it was on Man vs Food for having the country’s spiciest dish” turned out to be just ok. Not the spiciest dish, no way am I ordering that. I saw the clip. The guys in he back wear face masks to cook it. Brick Lane is arguably the nicest looking of the Indian spots on 6th St. The rest all run together and probably share one kitchen. We walk in around 7pm, the host tells us it’ll be 10 minutes and there are plenty of empty tables in sight. Not really in a hurry, we agree to his terms and go to wait outside. The host interprets this as us leaving to go to any of the other 11 Indian restaurants, and magically comes up with a table. Cool. I’ll need to try that move more often. ... The food was definitely good, but if this place is making up wait times at the door, forgetting Naan and double the price of the rest of the street, I’m not inclined to go back. Every other place on the street is hawking their $8 three course dinner specials and practically begging me to have food that’s just as good. I’m going there next time. Bottom Line: Not worth the 2x mark up compared to the rest of Curry Lane. Skip this, try Sonar Gaow. 1000dinners.tumblr.com
