New York's BEST Ice Cream

Yes, order the banana split and share it with another. I ordered strawberry ice cream to test thier quality because I don't like strawberry ice cream...nobody makes it "real". This plcae makes it "real". I always take home a half-gallon with me after a cone or so. Plus! Great view of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline. A really good deal.

Begin near city hall in Manhattan. Enjoy a leisurely walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. Exit at the steps,cross under the bridge and walk down to the Fulton Ferry Landing. Be prepared to wait in line. If rainy, or slightly chillier, the line will be shorter. Once at the counter, one person will take care of your whole party, so the first person should eat and not wait for everyone to get theirs, so as not to be drinking their ice cream. I recommend the Banana Split. You can get three flavors of whichever ice cream you want. Try it with whatever toppings you want too. I have been to the BICF over 15 times and never have I been charged for extra toppings. Then enjoy your ice cream on the landing, and feel free to sit on the ground, if the limited seating is unavailable. There is a smallish park next to the River Cafe with benches and shade where you can sit, if available. Whichever way you like your ice cream, be prepared to put effort into getting it, because many other people like it too. Enjoy!

In all honesty, the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory has it's good and bad days. However, IMO the ice cream is quite possibly the best in the city. Yes, the line can sometimes be over an hour long. Yes, it is most likely to happen on the hottest days of the year. (I have even passed out in there before!) Yes, there is no air conditioning. Yes, the service is slow. BUT, there is nothing that will make me stop coming here. It is absolutely one of the best locations in the city, otherwise numerous wedding would not come to the landing for their pictures on the weekends (and some during the week). Let me give you the best scenario for visiting the BICF though.... (check out my next post)

went, stood on line, stood on line, and stood on line, got the ice cream and thats that. I could have gone to the corner deli, for half the price, half the time, and the ice cream would have been better.

Melting ice cream at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory in Brooklyn, NY

Unfortunately it was 90° outside with humidity 98°. No cover from the sun while waiting outside. No A/C inside while waiting on line. The service was awful. Two young men who were suppose to be servicing customers were just grumbling at customers in line that they blocked their way to the store supplies. One of the young men just left while the other hung in the back and left one very gracious and lovely young lady who did her best to cope with the line. There was no rush at all for the man to pitch in and help her! The bottom line is that the store is very badly set-up. There was one fan when the store should have a couple of large A/Cs working on such hot summer days. There should be an awning for parents with kids and everyone else to wait under or make room inside. Your ice cream is wonderful! Your store set-up is desperately in need of help and your service was the worst except for one lonely young lady doing her best to dish out the ice cream before it melted in the heat!

Ok I just had to write about some of the old reviews becuase alot of them had false information. First of all you get 3 toppings on a sundae and 2 scoops maybe those people didnt ask and whiped cream is free. And about the complaint about the heat and service, when its summer time and thiers a line out the door to the pier and the doors always open No AC is going to keep the place cold. And when people take an hour to decide what they want after they waited online for an hour it just makes everything even harder and the people in back of you have to wait even more. What was so bad about the service I would like to know?? But they try thier best and they are sorry for any displeasures.

The ice cream is probably some of the best anywhere. It is a bit of a walk from the subway, so be mindful if you have little ones. I was disappointed in the sundaes. I expected more. You get two scoops of ice cream and one topping. That is hardly a sundae. It was good, but I thing whip cream and nuts should at least be included. Besides that I can only compliment. There is a great view from the water's edge which made for a romantic evening.

The ice cream was very good. The service, however, was pathetic... The kids serving the ice cream did not seen to know what they were doing, and seemed overwhelmed. The waiting area inside should have better A/C. It was very hot. When people with kids, as well as pregnant women, are waiting the lines have to move quickly. It should be run more professionally for a business so well known.

This is quite possibly the best Ice Cream I have ever eaten. It's creamy, indulgent, fresh, and DELICIOUS! You should come here just to eat it while walking on the promenade overlooking Manhattan.

The ice cream was delicous! I had chocolate with a pineapple topping which was great. Wish I'd tried the hot fudge now, though. It was a cold and rainy day (Memorial Day, 2004) and the place was cozy inside, not too hot, not too cold. The server was very warm and genuine. And I love my post card of the place and the view of the Brooklyn Bridge which I had just walked over. Definitely will return!
