Not coming back
By ewg on 5/13/2012
I have been coming here for several years, and while the service is never extraordinary, the food is generally pretty good. Today was the last time, though. First of all, their website advertised a CHOICE between prix-fix Mother's Day brunch or their normal brunch menu. However, on arrival, the prix fix was the only option at $39 with no beverage included. We waited almost 20 minutes for anyone to take our order. We waited even longer for salads. And even longer for our main course. By the time we would have ordered dessert that we didn't want anyway, it had been almost two hours. The waitress was perky but terrible and non-apologetic. I asked if we could just be charged the a la carte prices for our meals since we weren't sticking around for dessert, and instead she just took $7 off for each. The prix fix was a total rip off, since had we ordered the same things a la carte, they would have been less expensive. Normally I feel bad about stiffing a waiter on the tip, since often they are merely the messenger and it's the kitchen that is slow. This time, though, everyone seemed to have contributed equally to the horrible dining experience.

Been here before and thought the food was average. Yesterday we noticed that a party of 2 was seated at a table for 4 outside. We were 2 people and since the only outside table available was for 4, we asked if we could be seated. Obviously, the precedent had been set but we were turned away with the excuse that they might need it should 4 people show up. Very rude for a neighborhood place so we wandered up the block and had a delightful dinner at a competitor who generously gave us the table we requested.

This restaurant has lovely simple French food, attentive, well paced service (that neither hovers nor wisks you out) and a management that welcomes customers as guests. Decor is bright an cheerful although not overwhelmingly comofortatble (good for 60-120 minutes, but not long leisurely dining). Overall a place I really liked and want to go back to.

So the menu only has two types of chicken, braised and roasted. I decided to order the braised. At first, since it took so long to bring out the food and I was too hungry to notice, I didn't realize I was eating grilled chicken. I'm not much of a food connoisseur but I know the difference between grilled, braised, and roasted. There wasn't even grilled chicken on the menu! Was this a mistake or a complete lie on the part of the menu and the management. Either way it was disappointing. The place showed a lot of promise but didn't live up to it. Oh, everything was so imbibed with garlic it over powered every other flavor. I couldn't taste anything else but garlic the rest of the night, to include the beers I had later that night. Extremely disappointing.
