Best Dim Sum in NYC!

I grew up in Hong Kong and am very particular about my dimsum. Evergreen, without exception, provides the highest quality dimsum - this includes comparing to restaurants in Chinatown and Flushing. The selection at Evergreen is not as plentiful , but even for me, one who eats everything, it's variety enough. I miss certain things like tripe or fish balls with curry sauce, but the quality of food is so much better than its counterparts in Chinatown and Queens that, in this case, less really is more. The ingredients at Evergreen are fresh and not fatty. The dishes, as in most dimsum restaurants, are not oily at all. The big test for me is always the cheong fun, a steamed rice noodle roll dish that's generally butchered in most dimsum restaurants. At Evergreen, the cheong fun is refined with the perfect thickness of noodle wrap and the correct amount of stuffing. Most restaurants serve thick, starchy rice noodles with a clump of meat inside. The sauce for cheong fun also has to be perfect - a sweetened soy sauce, but not too sweet, of course. It is not easy to get this dish just right and Evergreen does so every time. All the dumplings are delicious - try the chicken dumpling and the har gow especially. So, if you are looking for dimsum in Manhattan, you should at the very least try Evergreen Cafe. This review is specifically for dimsum at Evergreen on the weekends only when push carts are available.

They have a menu you do not see in an average suburban strip-mall Chinese restaurant. No chow mein or chop suey! Everything we had was good, especially shrimp grand marnier. EVERYTHING is ala carte including rice and tea! BUT...they give you lovely free little appetizer samplers and even refill them! Nice atmosphere.

This restaurant sells shark fish soup which encourages the trade of shark fins which is decimating the world shark population. Please boycott.

Average Chinese food. Delivery is fast. Pricey and just a solid OK.
