Best Place in Manhattan!

I love this place. I go as frequently as I can and try a different cake each time. All the desserts I've had are amazing. I love the black forest cake the most. I love the ambiance. It's very charming. I love being inside and I really like the French decor. I always bring family and friends here for dessert. It's very fun and usually busy. It is a little crowded at times but it doesn't bother me because I think it adds to the atmosphere. The service isn't the best, but it's not terrible either. I don't think the service matters that much because the place is really made for being social and they let you stay as long as you like. I'm not sure why the other reviews are so harsh!

I have visited Lalo exactly four times and will never go back. The first time was when a friend took me there and the other three I was hosting visitors from out of town. It has been worse every time. The service has always been slow but I've always chalked it up to the business. On our last visit the place was nearly empty (although they had the music way up). It took the waitress forever to come to take our order, took forever to get the cakes, and then we had to actually get up and ask for water (which we requested with our order). The waitress was mostly chatting with the other servers during that entire time. There were only two other occupied tables. Despite this, we were seated in an awkward table between a full table with four people and a pillar. The water didn't come until well after we were done eating. My cake was okay, but my friends' was very dried out. Also, they bring the bill as a little slip of receipt paper, not in a bill holder or anything. This got lost on my way up to the cashier somehow and they acted like it was my fault, and kept asking me to check my pockets. Then I was told that they do not take credit cards, which apparently is written in the menu but is not posted anywhere in the actual restaurant. (We didn't look at the menus becasue we only ordered desserts we had seen in the case). Will never go back.

Very over priced, loud music, cigarette smokers hanging out on benches outside all night permeating the air. Rat ran by while entering Cafe. Would not go back.

Very charming place..but not all the desserts looked fresh...I stared into the case to find one that looked like it wasn't made last week! Had the tres leche cake and was not disappointed! Also, had Jamaican Coffee...very good! Bathroom did not smell good at all and waitress was okay, though there was a lovely girl working another section who was friendly and helpful. Personally, been there and don't need to do it again...

I love love love this place. I go there almost every week. Such a cute atmosphere with the lit trees, wall of windows, exposed brick, decor of French posters and pots of lavender, and ballerina-esque costume of the servers. True, the service is less than excellent, but that is not why you go there; it is a great place for conversation as well as delicious coffee, homemade desserts, and brunch menu. I recommend the Lalo's special for brunch and any one of their magnificent pies or tortes. Charming.

I've only been twice, but both times the coffee was great and the dessert was amazing. It's a little crowded, but I think it's definitely worth it.

Very small restaurant with an average of one waitress for every three tables. Most of the waitresses do a wonderful job of holding up the highly coveted dessert case and ignoring customers at the tables. We had to beg to get water, drinks and our order. The Moroccan Delight, recommended by H Lalo per the menu, is a bland mess of hard boiled eggs covered by what looks like crushed tomatoes Bad service, bad overpriced food and a strange music mix do not make a pleasant dining experience.
